American serama thread!

:clap good luck! Day 17 is quite a bit early. Any idea why?
Years ago I read that smaller serama eggs hatched earlier; as early as 15 days. I doubted this, it it would appear it is correct. I made sure to mark the first day of brooding on the calendar; I even asked my wife what day it was even though I knew-No mistake 17days.

This is my first time dealing with microserama.

Four tiny chicks-two died in the shell; not strong enough to even internally pip. It's frustrating to loose two, but I'm happy with the four. I was afraid nothing would make it since it's so early. FOUR-YEAH! I'll try to post pictures when the chicks are all dried off.

From the mouths of babes....

DS had a hmwk sheet today about machines. The kids had to come up with a list of common machines found at home.

For each row the kids had to write, Machine Name, How it helps, & What people did before the machine was invented.

Our DS wrote: Incubator.... hatches eggs....used a broody hen. It makes perfect sense to me.... and it IS a machine used frequently in our home.
:lau

It's February, so I'm sure the teacher "gets him" by now.
I just had to share this little bit of laughter with those who would understand.

Awesome. Can’t wait to see them.

My full size Buff Orp hatched 2 Serama roos on December 2nd. For the past couple of weeks mama has been chasing the 2 and no longer gives them food. They have started crowing and a few days ago we actually saw one of the "twins" mounting mama! No self-esteem issues there! I can't even imagine if they "connected" due to the size difference. I'm going to check her eggs this weekend in the off chance any might be fertile. However, no one is broody at this time. I would love to hatch some of those eggs!

Also on Dec 2nd, our broody silkie hatched a couple seramas & a giant orpington. The mama left them about 2.5 weeks ago & resumed laying. Today the silkie is making her grumbly broody noises again and spent 1/2 the day in the nest box.

hope someone will see this since there's not much recent activity....

when can you tell what the little fluff nuggets will look like? when do the adult feathers show their true colors?

my fluff nuggets are due to hatch on the 11th

Around 4-5 months of age; closer to 5 months. I've a young pullet right now that surprised me. She was dark black with a white chest. Now her adult feathering is coming in-each black feather is tipped in white. A beautiful little bird she will be. Her sister was a dull brown; now each feather is trimmed in cream; and this while she raises her first chicks. She is not quite 5 months old.
