American serama thread!

Well I guess the gender of the ? serama no longer matters. She was fine this morning but around 9am I found her laying on her side in the shavings crying. I think the flock pecked & mortally injured her. I separated the chicks & mama.... and then mama continued the beating. I removed mama & the chick died. I tried putting the mama back in with the remaining living chick but mama was beating her up too. Now I have a lonley only chick with a balding head inside the house and no companion for comfort & friendship. Not sure how to integrate this little one. Any suggestions? She's so sweet & gentle.

Oh so sorry. I found my serama hens a ruthless to chicks. I had 9 chicks hatch under 4 broodies and the serama hen stole 4 of them even though I only gave her egg one to hatch. She would try to kill all the other chicks except her 4. Try giving the lone chick a small stuffed animal and a mirror.

It has a plushie & my kids are pretty good about giving the chick some quality time. (It's always runs up and hops into our hands.) However, i'm not sure how well flock integration will go, now that it no longer has a companion. I was hoping the mama & chicks would integrate together but now I can't trust her. I'm letting her integrate into the flock 1st, and will then have to figure something out for the chick.

Hens are so mean sometimes. Meaner than roosters. You would think they'd get that more girls in the flock the better for their backs in the springtime.
I hope she finds her space and they let her be; maybe make a see-no-touch barrier in the coop for warmer days and bring her in at night?
It took two full week of swap a chicken to get Pippin to integrate. I can now leave the door open to the upper part and they all can go and come as they please, but she prefers to stay up there out of the way of Jasmine. They still dont like each other although they mutually respect each others space. Phoenix is more like who cares as long as you don't get in my 3 in. radius of personal space.
I'm going to have to get grandma to make me some mini saddles for these tiny seramas. Phoes back by the tail is looking a little thin.

Okay, I'm beginning to get why so many people are enchanted by Seramas. My little cockerel (@ 10 weeks) has become quite the charmer, flying up onto my forearm whenever I sit down to spend time with the chickies and cocking his head at me.

When we got our 1st bantam (a sebright) DD said, "But Mom she's so tiny she doesn't really count." LOL She was 8 and already had so much wisdom! Today we have a little coop for our seramas & silkies. They're sort of their own thing. Since they're housed in a different coop, we still don't count them in the official chicken number.

Here's my little silkied serama chick. She's imprinted on me & peeps as soon as she hears my voice. Poor girl is afraid of any other serama. I put her on the basement floor with a hen who was about 4' away, eating some treats. The chick went screaming and flapping for its life away from the hen and jumped up into my lap. The hen didn't even look up and simply ate the scratch.
