American serama thread!

curly to smooth = 100% frizzle
curly to frizzle =100% curly
frizzle to smooth =50/50

the curly to frizzle you are correct is not wise as the feather quality can cause breakage

Per Juliette
" Curly, meaning she has two copies of the frizzling gene, so when she is mated to a smooth feathered cockerel, ALL of her offspring will be frizzled. She will need extra heat in the winter if you live in a cold climate."

Personally I would NOT breed a Curly to a frizzle.

Agreed. My curly from Juliette, Brigette, is with a smooth rooster.

A few more photos of the latest hatch...3 frizzles (from Fawn) and 4 smooth (1 of these from Fawn)

I have a smooth male I want to pair her with but he's still only about 6 weeks old. Swayze my frizzle male keeps mating with her and she will screech. She's not laying yet or anything. She looks identical to the buff curly Juliette was selling in her last auction. Same name too. Goldie. I guess I need to beg my husband a bit more. Maybe he will get the hint!

Has anyone ever seen a bantam ee/ serama mix? I plan on letting one of my males have my ee as an extra hen. She's an oddball chicken of mine. My only other bantam bird other than my seramas.

How do you take such good pictures?! Your pics are so clear and sharp! Everything also looks clean. Do you have a chicken indoor room?

All of my Seramas are inside, yes. I have a room downstairs that is dedicated solely to them....and yes, I clean every single day

LOL How many do you have in there and how many do you keep? What kind of pens do you use? Any pictures of the whole entire room? I am trying to convince my parents to allow me to do this with my silkies at least through hurricanes which should start coming our way soon. What bedding do you use? Im sure your birds love you for it!

I have my Seramas (7 breeding pens - Zephyr's in my office) and a couple cages for my special need chickens in the room (spraddle legs, cross beaks). I have an outside flock too of layers. Their coop is just as cushy lol, in my opinion. I have this OCD thing about making sure my chickens are extremely comfortable

These are the cages. My husband built all of them for me. It's a fairly large room with windows and a door and lots of lighting.

For the bedding, I use wood pellets (for pellet stoves or animal bedding - same thing) - less dust than shavings and much easier to keep clean in the cages and on the floor. The smell is much better too.

This is Zephyr's set up - wall to wall carpeting LOL

This is the outside coop. I made my husband put a patio on it lol. This year he is putting a sand bathing pit in that will be able to be covered in the winter months for them. As you see, they even have a patio umbrella and on hot days they get tubs of ice to play in and fans

My outside chickens are so spoiled that 2 summers ago when it got up to 114 here, I put them all in my husband's garage LOL

These are the rooster kennels he just built me in the garage. They are spoiled too.
