I had egg problems and I think the egg had broken inside of her. I gave her Chick Saver for the electrolytes and vitamins as she was not eating or drinking. Gave it to her with an eyedropper and the next morning she was bright as a new penny. I was amazed. I think that stuff helps them whatever their problems are. It just gives them a boost so they can recover. I am never with out it!

I use the smaller cages because it works for me and i have 15 roosters and most of them just don't get along toghter and some of my birds are show birds and i like to keep them seperate so i can breed bird A with bird B if i choose to and know who the parnets are so just for control if i had the space and owned this place things would be different for sure . i wish i could let mine free range but to many things to worry about . so i guess to awnser your ? for there safe being of the bird and bird control .

I hope she's feeling better. I had the same problem with one of mine laying soft shell eggs. Several people on SCNA said to get some Calcisand from the reptile department of your local pet store and sprinkle it on top of her feed....it works!!

Hope this helps.

I always use cages for my breeders. Isolating my breeding pairs allows for accurate record keeping as I know which egg is which. Living in the city has it's challenges but Serama are very forgiving. If you have the room, let'em run! No need to spend more money to give them less space. Sounds like you have som lucky birds.

My breeding pens are 10X8 approx. inside and go to outside 10x10 and I put 1 roo and usually 2 hens in each. I had a bird barn built 2 years ago and have my incubator room in there and chick runs and brooders too. All seramas are in that building except the pets in the pasture or running free range. All my standards are out in the pasture or a different area in my field. I have a few 5x5 inside that go to 5x5 outside runs. I thought of taking out a 10x10 and making cages like all you have and putting them there.
