I put mine in an enclosed shed at night, or on rainy days,

and in big open aviary style coops during the day. I drop into the 30's in the winter, but not much lower. I did put a little heater in the shed, to help warm them up for about an hour in the morning, but I don't run it at night.

I am keeping my young ones in the garage in cages with a heat lamp when it gets cold at night. My adults are in an Amish coop with a flat panel heater for cold nights. Biggest problem, of course, is to have electric. They would probably be fine without anything like bibb-17 said but I sleep better at night knowing they have some heat on cold nights. Don't laugh, but in my Amish coop, the roost bars are heated. It was an option I got when I bought the first coop and did not know how hardy chickens are!!
