I have been using Frontline spray on my Dutch and Nankins for 4 or 5 years with no adverse effects. I spray under both wings three times a year and have rarely had any papasite problems. The fertility has not been effected. I hatch about 100 chicks a year and the hatch rate is over 95%. The birds weigh between 16 and 24 ounces, Im not sure how it would effect class A sized birds.

Just tossing this out there about the mites... I read on here ( somewhere) that you can use WD-40 by their vent & it will kill the mites because that is where they go for moisture ..

anyone have any feed back or experience ??

i would be afraid of a solvent like that near the vent... the vent sucks up anything moist that goes on it.... and wd40 can be real toxic

Question on Vitamins for the Seramas.
I have them inside for the winter, do I need to give them Vitamins? I have read about Vitamin D but don't know the doseage for them. Thanks in advance,Kim in GA

I had a bout of red mites last June or July and got rid of them all in one day by using the air compressor in every nook and cranny in the coop after removing ALL bedding and fecal matter, spread sevin dust in all of the cracks, under the boards, and sterilized the roosts, feeders, and waterers with boiling water, I washed every single bird with Dr. Adams shampoo, then dusted them with sevin under their wings and on their vents after they dried, and I brushed the roosts with one part kerosene and three parts water while the chickens were evacuated from the coop. It took me all day long but I haven't seen a mite since and I check my birds every other day. Yes it took work but it was a LOT better for the birds. They like having a nice warm bath.
Quick tip: For a quick check for parasites in a large flock, check your WHITE birds first! Trust me. Mites love white birds the most.

Also, if you see mite eggs clumped around the vents, clip the contaminated feathers off before you treat them (and throw the egg infested feathers in the fire). No sense in letting those nasty little buggers hatch out on your birds, even if you have already treated them with frontline or whatever may be. Back in the day I used to use ivermectin. It got rid of EVERYTHING, including scaley leg mites.
Sorry if I offended anyone and I'm not saying WD-40 does or does not work: I'm saying that WD-40 is for cars and squeaky doors and also that people should use products on poultry that are intended and approved for poultry use.
