American serama thread!

Another Serama newbie here. Thirteen days to lock down on my very first hatch. I didn't set out to get seramas, they were a bonus from pamperedpoultry. After doing a bit of research I can't wait to see what hatches, so far it's looking good on all seven. I've even gone so far as to order a pair of adults from Lulin.

Even with a bit of internet research, there is a lot I still need to know. Housing is taken care of. I've raised quite a few large fowl, but never any itty bitty chickens

Had keets and a cockatiel when younger.

Any advice would be great. I'm planning to give the adults wheat germ in their feed. Is GroGel good for the peeps? What vitamin supplements are recommended, if any? Are they more susceptible to certain issues? I've read that pasty peep butt can be a problem. Are they pretty tough even though they're small? Special treats? Handling tips? Breeding tips?

So excited...can't wait!

well I posted this months ago on youtube. I wonder how they look now crossing with a wheaten ??? I wonder will they throw out cocoapop on the first try ??? Hmm interesting .... I know if they look like a cocoapop same color as a cocoapop would you call it a cocoapop or would you said it looks cocoapop on the outside and not the in side like a few ppl I know haha .... Hmm I know I took some pics ... what would be your guess...

are they good broody moms??

They're GREAT broodies! Mine started hatching their own babies out at 5 months old. As far as good mamas go, mine usually get bored/tired of their chicks after a week so I have to hand raise them. I had a silkied pullet raise her babies for three weeks which is a record in my coops. My ginger pullet raised her babies for four days and then they became terrified of her because she started scratching vigorously and they went flying from her feet. My mille mama got tired of hers after a couple of days - she would stand up and literally shake them out of her wings. She only had three and my ginger only had two so it's not like the mamas were stressed from overload - they just wanted to peck around with their friends instead of being tied down with babes. I'm sure there are good serama mamas out there though!

Well, it doesn't seem to bother HIM !!

yup always the whites like to get dirty...

I thought I had a dun pullet last summer - turned out to be my once white girl.

I don't think they just look dirtier because they're white - they spend more time taking dust baths, I swear. And if there is mud to be found they are the first to find it!
