Yes it was marked frizzle. Funny thing was when Peewee was born she had a single feather that stuck straight up on top of her head. I almost named her Alfalfa because of it. No clue she was a frizzle until her feathers started coming in. All of the eggs she sent me were marked in some way so if yours weren't marked at all you may still get one.

Is it true that frizzle mated to smooth will produce 75% chance of a frizzle? I would think only 50%? Congratulations on a Frizzle!

All of mine said Ser. Oh well, I'll keep hoping, maybe one got mixed in somehow. Next time I'll ask if she can try and give me at least one. I'd really like to end up with a Silkied like her one boy ,too. He is sweet!!!

I don't know about Brookhavens, but I did ask for a frizzle, and I got one and it was marked. But if you didn't ask in particular, it may be she doesn't normally mark them?? None of mine were marked silkie, I'm still hoping though, LOL

I don't know how to post a Punnet Square, but it works like this: most frizzled birds have the genotype F/f, F being the dominant frizzle allele. A smooth feathered bird is f/f. Each of those birds will contribute one of the two alleles to each chick. The smooth bird will give each chick an f, and the frizzle will give an F or f. Every chick that gets an F will be frizzled. A large number of offspring from this crossing should produce 50% frizzled birds.

Many people will tell you to never breed F/f to F/f because F/F offspring will have sparse and brittle frizzled feathering. As long as you have the ability to compensate for the issues that this will create, a F/F bird will produce 100% frizzleds with any mating.

I hadn't thought of that, you've given me hope!!!

My one chicks wing feathers seem a little ratty, so my face is glued to the window all the time. Well, I wouldn't want to miss it turning Silkied overnight, now would I?

I just ordered Serama eggs...lol. Didn't ask for anything in particular and rec'd a nice assortment.

Here is a Silkie cross that has turned out to be a frizzle/sizzle. She will be 3 weeks tomorrow.




I "think" Cochin is the other half of her genes, as she has yellow skin/feet/beak. But she has the tell-tell 5 toe feet. She was the buddy I got for Uno (my single Serama) and she just keeps getting better. First, she has a superb personality, and now a frizzle/sizzle. This little "girl"

is a terrific little pal for Uno.(who stressed himself senseless the first 3 days of his little life) Now, they are 2 peas in a pod.
