height wise, they don't need a whole lot, what about those extension panels you can get, and cover the top with poultry netting??

I have 7 very smart dogs. I want these babies safe when I'm at work. Not saying I don't trust my dogs, but why take chances?:/

That's one of the reasons why I have my babies in a spare room with a door I can shut when we leave.

This is the link for the cages. The grids are 15 inches square. The cage will cost less if I go with 15 inches high but I don't know that that's high enough. A 2x3 grid covered cage is $82. The one I sent the picture of is $102. A lot of money so I don't want to buy the wrong thing.

I like the length and the width. What do you think the height should be?

They like to fly a bit, but mine get their exercise outside, and even then, they do a little flying then mostly stay on the ground scratching. So I think artsyrobin is right, esecially if we're talking Seramas here. They are short! Mine have about 20" from the top of the shavings right now, and that allows for a small perch that sits about 6-8" of the ground. They have to duck to go under the perch, but it's not hard for them, or they can hop over it, but they really do like the perch to hang out on or sleep on. If they'll be in the house, you don't need anything more than some netting for the top, so that should be inexpensive??

I'm not sure how strong the cage is against predators, so it probably shouldn't be used outside unless you're really in an area that has none. Of course that usually means you just don't see 'em But ya, I know you want this for the house. Seems actually nice. I hate to say it, but it also seems inexpensive, 'cause cages cost a small fortune!!! Ugh!

Is he ok? Can I leave that shell stuck to his back? He looks fine until he falls down and it looks like it is putting a ton of pressure on his little neck... I don't want him to get hurt!

Hey kukupecpec - I have a Brinsea mini, too, and I just wanted to suggest that you put paper towels on the bottom when you're hatching so they don't get spraddle leg. It's really easy - I just trace the outline and the center hole of the egg turner disk and then cut it out. You can also up the humidity if you need to by sprinkling water on the water towel. It works well.

I think 15" would be the abolute minimum, otherwise your roosters' tails will hit the top and they'll get all raggedy looking.

I had an idea for some to perhaps find some nice cages. I have purchased mydog kennel type cages from Craigslist. All three I found for only $10 each. They are for my dogs when I need to go out but there are always nice animal cages on there even under "Free" since often people move and cant take them. Just a thought.

More I think about it, more I think they'd be quite happy there. Those things give you a ton of square footage, 12.5 square feet. I think up to 6 birds would be pretty happy in there, more if they can go outside, like wear diapers and run around the house? I'm starting to like this idea, only I don't want chickens in the house anymore,LOL, they're really dusty!!! I plan on the patio but predators can get them there so I have to make something stronger

Yes, CL should always be one's first stop to shop! Unfortunately, when I needed something, I couldn't find it sometimes, LOL. 'Course K9Flier is planning ahead, which is so smart!!!!

Look like salt and pepper shakers!




Darned if they don't look like they need to be on the table! And I don't mean fried!
So the breed has another convert, but they share their home with the Silkies.
Beautiful birds on this thread, I hope to see lots more pics from everyone.
