American serama thread!

Wanted to show my youngest Cockerel Lucky.

He is getting his pose down. I hope to work on the wing positioning and his tail needs to be held a little higher. Hopefully the hen I have him paired with will compliment him and make the offspring better.

I'm in LOVE...

Here is another one of my hens. Not the best posture. Still working with her.

This is her baby Pearl. She is solid white, hoping she will improve in confirmation and pose. She's still a baby.

I'm not a judge, but I love their posture. Beautiful girls!!!
Boaz had another seizure incident tonite- almost like he is epileptic - he comes out of it with alot of massaging and talking- real strange- put him in this box until his legs started working again, then he'll be his chipper self

I'm sorry! Poor Boaz, but he's lucky he has you for a Mom. He's in great hands!

I had a question on hatching serama eggs in my incubator. I have a Hovabater Genesis 1588 w/auto turner...

Do yall keep your incubator's humidity at a lower percentage than other eggs, since I would think a lower humidity would slow down their growth so that they have more room in the end to get out of egg?!
Just curious if you all have any tips

I'm also selling eggs $20 (that includes shipping) for 6+ eggs. I'll just accept Paypal @ [email protected]
Oh & here's my parents :)

I treat Serama eggs just like any others. Dry incubate the first 18 days and then up the humidity to low 60's at lockdown. When the first one pips I up it a little more.

Thank you all for your kind comments. This place is so nice. I belong to serama forum and don't post pictures generally because their birds like all champions and criticize mine to no end. LOL It's good to get compliments, I'm proud of all my birds and love them all.

About the the serama with seizures. That is so sad. I'm so sorry he has to go through this. Hope it gets better.

My roo stopped eating and drinking, so I brought him in to check him out. he had a million mites so he got a bath and went into my nice warm bathroom (chicken sickroom). He continuted to walk around like he was drunk and with a little research, found that he has "chickenpox". Avian pox can become internal and cause blockages. Some live through it, some don't. they say it takes about 3-4 weeks to get over it. I checked him again and their were mites on him that I didn't get with the last bath, so in he went again. He may very well have mites in his inner ear that cause him to walk drunk. Also, when he drinks, he acts goofy and his head goes back into that position.
Perhaps one of these things is causing your bird stress? None of my other birds have the lice, which is weird...but I'm sure he's having a one two punch of health problems. He's still in the recovery bathroom and going on the third week. His sores are drying up but so has his comb, it's flopping.

Have you considered getting bloodwork done on him, including levels of B vitamins? Something keeps poking the back of my mind on that but I can't pin it down...

Note to Artsyrobin..My husband has seizures.......He never remembers a thing that happened.
Hopefully this is true for your Boaz........

thanks for all the help! Boaz is his normal rascally self today... last nite before he had his episode, he began leaning to the right a bit- makes me think neurological??

That's good news artsyrobin, but do see if some vitamin B12 will help like onafixedincome said. B12 and potassium kind of work in a weird way, usually at odds. That is if you start taking B12, your potassium can drop so taking both together is a good idea, but don't give too much of either since it would be kind of a "see if it helps" thing. Both affect your nervous system / brain functions. Just try adding safe amounts to water or food or something and see if he seems better, slowly increase if there doesn't seem to be any harm done. It might help?

Note: The thing about chemicals in your body, they can do so much to you, as I just found out! I've been suffering from amazing pain in my knees. It's been getting worse and worse this past year especially. I've seen the doctor, and am scheduled to get a blood test. My sister (and everyone I know) is always telling me "stop drinking diet coke, it's bad for you" and I didn't listen because my doctor said it was safe. I've looked up what's so bad about the stuff, and I don't recall anything talking about joint pain. Anyway, long story short, I stopped drinking DC first full day was yesterday. Today, tonight, I have very little joint pain! I can't believe it! If my knee pain remains so small, or even (knock on wood) gone, I will be amazed! I've been finding it almost impossible to walk, it's been so painful. Now I have to eat crow, everyone's going to give me the "I told you so" but in truth nobody ever suggested why I should stop, until the day before yesterday, when my sister suggested it was causing my joint pain, which I dismissed, but thought it wouldn't hurt to stop drinking the stuff to see.

Anyway, I've had B12 deficiency, supplements have really helped with fatigue in me. We also found out my eldest has low B12 (and high potassium) and she felt much better after starting B12 supplements. These things can actually make you very sick if you don't have the right balance :)
