American serama thread!

When you gals/guys (??) hatch shipped Serama eggs, do you just put them in the 'bator without turning for the first 5-7 days like some people recommend for shipped eggs? I have a dilemma right now with the hatching eggs that I ordered. My incubator only holds 7. However, I ordered the insert to hatch 12, but I don't think it will arrive in time. So my "plan" was too put all 12 eggs in for 5-7 days without the turning disc, candle, and discard all eggs that aren't developing, and hopefully by then the 12 turn egg tray would be there by then. Could that work?

I let mine sit for 3 days, and then treat them like every other egg. At lockdown slightly higher humidity than my LF. I can't help with turner advice, I hand turn all of mine. But your plan sounds like it would work.

Ive got that incubator too!
I only let mine sit for 24 hours, then I put them in little cups to hold them upright. I just don't trust shipped eggs air cells unless after day 10 they are totally stable.

So you hand turn instead of allowing the incubator to turn for you? You have the Brinsea Mini Advance, correct? I was considering turning them myself but I was worried about the temp. stablity.

It's so small the temperature only takes maybe 30 seconds max to get back up to temp. I Usually pickup my dome and set it down on the table so the hot air in the top stays in there a little to help, but even when I have turned it upside down and let all the air out it still only takes 30 seconds or less to get back up to temp. When I had a TON of serama eggs in there, they were so tight that I could simply ti the whole incubator to turn instead of turning each egg by hand. Granted that batch didn't hatch but 90% of the eggs had shown signs of weeping after letting them sit the initial 24 hours, I never expected any of the to hatch.
If I were you, I would at least hand turn until day 10 when you can get rid of the ones that aren't developing or have the 12 disc turner, JUST to make sure their air cells are ok for those fragile shipped eggs.
I did notice though that my serama eggs just barely fit the 12 turner. They were so jam packed they didn't all turn by themselves with the disc ANYway. I waited to use the disc turner until I only had 6 eggs so I could space them better.

Wow
I got the eggs these babies parents came from, from BHep on here. The daddy is a black and white exchequer and mom is a little black pullet... they are throwing these amazing little babies! I am thrilled so far!

And thanks to everyone who commented.... I am so excited to see the potential this pair seems to have... and I love the black and white, too :D
wow! I got mine fro
Bhep too ill have to order some more.

I'm assuming that you didn't use the cooling feature when you were hand turning?

BTW, my eggs from BHep are shipping out tomorrow. :)

With shipped eggs(even Seramas) I let them sit for 12 hours to get to room temp. and then put them in the incubator and do not turn for 7 days. Since I started doing this I get a lot more that start developing. I have also seen totally detached air cells reattach after the 7 days.

Ok, that would probably work better in my situation. I'm going to try that. Thanks for the advice!
No Problem

Nah, more complicated than I really want to make it haha.

I was wondering about this! I just got a shipment of eggs in and it made me think. Not turning wouldn't effect anything in the growth before the baby chicken is getting bigger and closer to the edges of the shell right?
