American serama thread!

Only four more days to Hatch Day for my Castle Delights eggs....her packing is AWESOME! I had no idea I was supposed to let them sit, so under the hen they went right off the bat! Talk about dirty looks--I took her nice warm eggs away (crossbreeds) and put a bunch of ICE CUBES in there instead! That was 15 days ago....I moved the hen and nest to the new Queen's Quarters--about 4' square coop that is all hers--and since it's been really quite cold, placed some Christmas lights atop her plastic tote (it's on its side to protect from major drafts and any stray precipitation despite the plastic taped to the coop), which she seems to be appreciating. Tomorrow I pull the water *dish* and put in some of the caged-bird watering tubes which have founts that not even a Serama chick can drown in (I hope!).

Totally excited and anxious with a TERRIBLE case of PMS*.....

*PMS=Paranoid Mommy Syndrome
LOL, PMS, cute! Congratulations! Can't wait to see pictures!
only problem with silkies for broodies, not all go broody, and then when they do, they stay eternally broody or mama mode...:)
Figures........LOL
I'm getting two as babies this afternoon from a local lady. I HOPE they go eternally broody! I just want another incubator but my husband won't let me buy one so I'm tricking him with silkies haha!
I hope they're pullets!!!
My silkies do not go broody, just a normal basis. My d'uccles go broody. It seems that whenever a hen doesn't want to be bothered, she goes broody.

little Serama roo. And I free range my birds, too.

his papa.

Your birds are beautiful!
I'm so upset with USPS right now. My eggs were supposed to be here on Thursday and they didn't show, so I expected them yesterday. They also didn't show yesterday. I checked online today with the DC # and it said they arrived in the state, just that they won't be delivered until Monday. They were laid on Tuesday, so now the fertility will have declined. I'm really upset.
Ugh!
We'll I just heard from BHep. Apperentally the PO was being stupid and couldn't ship the eggs this week. So she is taking the old eggs back and giving me new ones that will for sure ship on Monday/Tuesday. I'm relieved.
Oh, that's so nice of her, I'm glad you no longer need to worry!
I have 3 broodies right now....2 of them are eternally broodie, I am always willing to hatch eggs for people from my HENB-O-BATORS!

It really wouldn't be too bad to have one that is always broodie, except when you live in the city like I do and really can't have extra chicks

Yes, they should be much like the one you've pictured. Except that the tail should also be vertical with sickles that flow straight up and curl back. We do not want anything more than vertical wings. The wings should not go so far forward as to be in front of the bird. I believe the standard calls for the eye, shoulder and feet to line up, but yes, we want that exaggerated S shape.

We have a white variety that is accepted by the American Poultry Association and soon, they will be accepting black and I believe barred?? However, I'm assured that table top competitions like they are held in Malaysia, will continue to be a part of bird shows from now on, where variety is not judged only type :)

YOWZA! handsome bird! American serama are alittle different than the Maylasian. This picture tells a better story. The American version is not quite as "severe" in posture as Maylasian. Now there are some breeders working on getting the maylasian shape back in the bird. From what I have heard the birds that were imported were the AYAM KAPAN and not the ayam serama. But I am not sure as to what the difference is of the two....Do you know?

Our tails are to be at a 90 degree angle and sickles straight with at most, a slight curve back. We do not have as long of leg as the true Malaysian birds do and our competition is not judged on most chest but on type and performance. Our shows are not as dramatic as your shows but I wish they were. Our white variety is APA and ABA accepted and we are working on wheaton, black and exchequer. Barred has not as yet been submitted to be best of my knowledge and has a ways to go. Our birds are on the table for only a couple of minutes each, not like in Malaysia. There really isn't time to clap and get excited while the bird performs. At tier II judging and tier III, the birds are on the table a little long while the judge makesup his/her mind but that still is only a few minutes. When judging, we take into consideration and award points for type, character, tail carriage, feather condition, and wing carriage.

I think I figured out your problem with posting pics. You have to have posted x # of times before BYC will let you post pics. I'll BRB. Gonna go ask Sally Sunshine how many is the magic #.
