American serama thread!

Well, I lost one yesterday. I was busy and hadn't noticed that the water emptied itself. I still don't understand what happened, i guess it was at an angle and I think some shavings drew the water out of it? Anyway, one was dead on the floor (not the little one with the leg problem) and I'm so bummed! A nice healthy bird gone! At least the others are all right. I refilled the waterer right away and the little ones gathered around it to drink like peeps lost in the desert :( I felt so bad

So far today, they all look ok. I'm still waiting for one egg to hatch from Hermione. It really was put into the mix late! But it should hatch soon. I hope it's large and robust so it can go with these week olds without much trouble!

I am so sorry

I hear a faint peeping in my eggs on day 18. I quickly checked the ones I suspected to break the air cell but I saw nothing? What do you guys think?

I put my eggs in lockdown day 17 because I saw the ones I suspected wiggling. I know peeping in day 18 is freaky... I had similar results with my bantam cuckoo maran eggs.

My temps with the BCM and the serama eggs are/were 102 deg and 40 - 50%
DO NOT open the incubator when they are in lockdown. Every time you do you are messing with the humidity and could cause the chicks to get shrink wrapped inside the egg and then they will never hatch.

thanks guys. Hermione's last egg, I can feel it moving in there (reaching under her and touching it) this is probably akin to messing with the egg in lockdown, LOL, but I really want this hatching to finally be over with! Hermione keeps looking at me when I approach like, "leave me alone already!" LOL But she doesn't get off the nest and eats and drinks in that position because I put food right in front of her. She's too sweet!

Well... The saddest thing happened with little Raine the other day... It was kinda cute though too. Anyways, she was preening herself, and as she did her wing, she grabbed on to it and couldn't figure out how to let go!! She started running in circles and peeping in distress. Just about gave me a heart attack. Eventually she figured out how to let go and was unharmed. I wish I could have gotten it on video!

New to this thread. I just started with seramas this yeat. My first pair is now 7 weeks old Carlitos and Guadalupe. Then 3 weeks ago I hatched little Evil , who was the only one to hatch from an order of shipped eggs. Because she was alone I felt sorry for.her and put in a newborn quail who she promply dragged off the water dish by the leg. So I took yhe quail out. I tried little Evil in witj some wrek old pullets and she bit their yoes so I topk her out when they retaliated. Next I tried her with my "big,,," seramas and the same thing happened plis she squeezed through the cage nars and spent the night pooping on my livingroom . I eas running out of places to put her when 3 little ducks hatched. She liked the ducks but more so their water pool, so out of the duck brooder she went. Finally I just hatched 8 littleseramas and I held my breath and put her in their brooder. So far they seem to yhink she is mamma serama and cuddle up under her wings. So happy little Evil found a home.
.
OMG.that is tooo funny

I love their little adolescent antics!!!

So I have a question for you guys - I now have 11 serama thanks to Fuzzy bird =D and at least 3 of my 6 girls are laying eggs. If you don't hatch them all, what do you do with your eggs?? Just eat them like regular eggs? lol
Every one I get I want to put in the incubator, but I just got a dz+ from Bhep today and I already have at least a dz from my new girls in the bator. If I keep adding an egg or two every day I will be so overrun with serama it will look like a plague! haha What do I do with all the eggs? I'm a super hatch-a-holic right now so it's really hard for me to NOT put fertile eggs in my incubators lol
