American serama thread!

How warm should the brooder be for these guys? Is 95 too cold?

Nah, 95 is fine, they sometimes still look like they're cold, little buggers. They really love the heat, but they can and probably should be weaned like normal?

Well, I think I've chosen who gets to stay and who has to go here. I have 3 boys, and I've paired them up with 3 girls according to who I think their mother is. That way they'd only be half sibs if anyone wanted to breed them.

I think the above cockerel belongs to Hermione and the pullet below belongs to Luna?

I think Harriet produced some brown babies! I'm pairing a brown boy with another girl that I think belongs to Luna, though it could be Hermione's also?

Finally, I'm putting what I think is Luna's boy with another Brown girl, who I think came from Harriet's egg. Hope someone will take them home!

So if anyone lives nearby..........?

then 90 - 95 is perfect! i was like you when i firt hatched chicks! now i put the heat lamp down and if they want heat thell go close, if they are too hot, they will move away from the light.

LOVE everyones adorable babies!!! I need to get updated pics of my youngest soon... Just not enough hours in the day sometimes.

PLUSSSSSS.... *drumroll*

Ok, so my little girls (some of them new laying pullets) are working overtime I think. I went out, collected eggs from the cages (two from Blaise's cage, and three others ...I forget off the top of my head now from who, but they are marked) so a total of 5 this morning at around 8. I came home from work at 6, and I had two eggs in Blaise's cage AGAIN (only him and two new pullets in there), an egg from Ava (I am pretty sure I had gotten one from that cage this morning) and one each from another new pullet, and from Boogs pen. TEN eggs from 5 girls who are laying within 24 hours. I think they are pulling a fast one and inviting friends over to lay in those pens :O

I ended up setting a total of 25 eggs, for a June 8th hatch date.... all from my birds, so this should be eggciting LOL!

I think most people either separate them from the flock, or move the flock over to "flock raiser". I have never let a broody raise any chicks so I don't have experience with either. I just hatch the chicks and keep them in a brooder eating chick starter until it is time to put them in with the flock.
it would only be for three day though?... ill sneak the chicks under her tonight if i have too lol! after three days when i get my cage back i can switch them all to grower feed. what do you think?
