American serama thread!

So far Wilfred is the only one that is looking roo.....can you have roos by your house? They are all so cute!

HECK, serama roos are so small compared to a LF roo you could hide a bunch of them with no problems...

am hoping he is the only roo in that group and if he doesn't crow very loudly will keep him, otherwise there is a field he can go and live in but he will be sooooo small, have heard of ways to stop them crowing too early in the morning so will be trying everything first

IF he is 100% serama he CAN be used by the 4H for showing and showmanship...so he would be VERY VERY desirable. Also, it is the ONLY color accepted by APA /ABA for incage showing! :yesss:

My frizzle serama hen appears to be going broody. How many eggs can a Serama hen typically cover? I have 7 of her eggs in the incubator and had collected 4 more and was going to collect a couple more and attempt a staggered hatch. But since she's gone broody on the last egg she laid I thought I could put those last 4 under her. I put them in the bator today so they will only be a day behind the first egg. I haven't had her long and she hasn't fully warmed up to me so I thought I could wait till she got up to put the eggs in the nest. I imagine she could cover 5 without too much trouble, I just wonder how many eggs other put under their Seramas and how many they usually hatch?

I once had a hen go brrody after the first 4 eggs she laid to a total of 13 eggs. By the time she had gone broody the first 4 eggs had spoiled and already began to form but died in the process because of the weather where i live. But out of the 9 eggs afterwards she hatched every single one of them.

Now I think my little white hen might go broody too... everyone is in their nest boxes and not on their roosts! I guess it's contagious. They are right above my hen who hatched my Serama chicks last week so maybe that triggered them. Maybe I'll put two eggs under Anna, the little white hen and 3 under Frizzle... this is so much fun!

Wow, 9 is impressive! That is more than I would have imagined!
