American serama thread!

I would mark mine when you do we all know what shipping can and will do to those eggs. That way you can accuratly judge your own eggs prior to shipping if you havnt done so in a while.

I have just hatched out 25 serama babies from my two hens and two cocks. One beautiful jet black chick has an all black comb. All the the other chicks and parents have red combs and wattles. Is the black comb a bad trait? Is it a bird that can be shown? Should it ever be used for breeding? I know that there have not been any other cocks around as I actually have the parents in cages in my front porch! I am very new to this breed and am trying to learn! Thanks in advance!

Here's Bjorn two weeks later. He's now 6 weeks old.

"she is waiting in the background until nobody is looking"

I think you're right.
The cat insisted on adopting me. After 3 days of seeing it starving in the cold I surrendered.
She knows the birds belong to me & doesn't try to hurt them but cats have loose morals.
I'm sure she only feels obliged to refrain from eating my birds as long as I am watching.
The birds are locked up tight 23 hours a day because of hawks.

Lol. They're adorable. My dog is the same way. He knows that the chickens are "mommy's babies" and he is not allowed to touch them. I've instilled that his whole life so I trust him even when I'm not there. I don't let tiny babies out with him though so don't know how he'd behave with them. They're at least 8 weeks old before I let the babies free range and my serama only free range inside of a fenced and covered pet play area. I'm too paranoid to let them out any other way.
