American serama thread!

i would give them heat if it gets below 40, i keep mine inside, but i know alot of people keep them outside- i think the smaller ones have more of a problem- most of mine are silkieds and i am super overprotective

No. Bring them inside when it gets into the 30's

My Seramas live outside all year long and it dipped below zero more than once. I had a 250 heat lamp where they could warm up when necessary and they were fine. A place to get out of the wind with a little added heat works wonders. They don't need to live inside if you have hearty birds.

They don't need to live inside provided they are adequately protected outside. 2 birds just died.

If it's freezing and "I didn't think about it" & the pet owner is still wondering if they should just ignore any future consequences on their remaining birds, maybe they shouldn't have pets?

Serama do not do winters well at all because of their small body mass plus they are not as tight feathered as most birds.heartyness has nothing to do with it when they are exposed to the elements.

Let us all not make assumptions on other peoples accounts.... This is a social and knowledge sharing medium. Advice and helpful comments please.

Did I mention I love my birds?

and a question- Spaz has laryngitis and his crow is squeaky, what should i do if anything>
