American serama thread!

Ok, I think you had told me that. You're not the only person updating me on my serama eggs, it gets confusing. But I think someone was hatching 12 or 13 chicks out of the 20 eggs I sent, which isn't bad for shipped serama eggs!

Not at all. It has been pretty good so far this year. This was a batch of 15. 12 went into lockdown but I don't see movement in 1 of the eggs so expecting 11 to hatch. I've had such a time with them once they go into lockdown. Just had another batch of 12 that went into lockdown and only 5 hatched. The others never even internally pipped. This time I left them on the turner until they internally pipped and then moved them to the hatcher. So far 7 have externally pipped today and 3 of which have now come out. The other 4 are still moving about but the 5th isn't.

That makes 34 serama in the brooders plus whatever hatches from these and the ones from ladycat in the next 2 weeks
400

wow lots of birds

Oh yes. I have 90+ chickens and about 25 call ducks. Always have something hatching :) Besides the serama I have barnevelders, cochin bantams, wyandotte bantams, duccles and old english bantams in the brooders. Outside I have 3 pens of juvenile barnevelders, serama, exchequers, ameraucana, easter eggers, cochin bantams and wyandotte bantams. Only about 60 of the 90 chickens are my adult flocks. The others may or may not make it into 1 of the flocks.

No. Not without vent sexing them that I'm aware of. The hatcheries vent sex a lot of the or ducks so TSC may have only gotten females. I'd ask. Their eggs taste close to the same to me with the duck eggs being a little richer tasting.
