American serama thread!

found out what was killing my birds. had a bad infestation of lice mixed with nasty cold snaps during late night and early morning hours. got it all taken care of and havent lost anymore birds... wish i figured it out before i lost my seramas.. as for finding replacements i havent yet ive messaged countless people and no one will ship :( im not sure what i can do right now

I know it might be too soon to tell about the two newborns but can anyone give me an idea of what color these would be called? Especially the frizzle, she is a little over a month old. I just got them this past weekend, my very first Serama's!! I'm in love

I was only going to get two, but I couldn't resist the frizzle and the little one in the last pic. The black and white is by far the tiniest little thing I have ever seen!! About half the size of a prescription bottle,I wonder if it will be a micro?!

how many eggs did you buy? so I have an idea on how many to get and let be clears :)

You can't be sure with shipped eggs of any breed.

As for Serama eggs that people have bought from me and I have shipped to them: one person got an almost 100% hatch. Several people have reported over 50% hatch.

But on the other end of the spectrum, some people have reported 25% to maybe 33% hatch. A few people have gotten 20% or smaller hatch. Fortunately, so far nobody has reported a complete failure (0% hatch)..

I have the birds on a good diet, and I pack the eggs well. But after they leave me, it depends on how they get handled by USPS.

Lice are the worst! They hide during the day and attack at night......... One should inspect their birds at least once a month after they roost for the night as they are much calmer then.

i just wasnt thinking about it because usually they show ruffled feathers and look bothered. no one did so i didnt really pay attention then boom.. dead birds
but now im kinda screwed because i have no show birds

It's crappy I agree, But lesson learned that is the important thing! We all go through learning curves one way or another. Just don't beat yourself up to much over it.
