American serama thread!

I'm getting some chicks today that are half silkie and half serama. My little roo even has leg feathers!!

Today I finally came to the realization that my little serama baby is in fact SILKIED!!! I can't believe it. I have been dying for silkied seramas and have no idea where this little dude came from because I have no silkied serama in my flock. I'm over the moon ecstatic. He's 4 weeks old now. Of course he is a male but at this point I don't care! I've been staring at him for the last 2 weeks, questioning myself on what I thought I was seeing, thinking I was just wishful thinking. Somewhere, somebody is carrying the silkie gene and I am just thrilled. He's a little black and white mottled boy and is so handsome! His surrogate mom is a cochin bantam that is mothering him, another serama, 2 large fowl orpingtons and a porcelain duccle. There are now 5 broodies in the serama house so I have given them all eggs in hopes of another little silkied baby :) Pictures to come tomorrow

These are going to be some of the most loved outdoor ******* chickens anyone's ever seen. Pictures abound!!!Her silkies got into the seramas creating these weirdos. They've had an interesting time in only 6 weeks. She went to Seattle, forgetting about her chicks hatching during the trip. So she BROUGHT THE INCUBATOR. In the car!!! She plugged it into a cig lighter and they hatched on the way and rode in her lap. They survived some kind of Dogageadon, but it's a sore subject so I'm not askinh any more questions.
Picking them up soon!! So excited.

Too funny. I bet the ones with top hats will be hilarious. You will have to share pictures once they're fully grown

Hey! I have a pair of Seramams. The are class A, and I will upload some pics later. But my question is how to tell if they're American or Malaysian. They're about six months old and the hen just started laying. The roo stands very straight, but not completely 'folded' looking. Hen is kinda chocolate laced, and roo is a very pretty light blue.
Any idea if they're American or Malaysian?

ALL serama are originally from Malaysia but here in the US we just call the offspring from those imports American.

If you want to read about how they came about getting to the US go to http://www.scnaonline.org/ and you can find out :thumbsup

Thanks! I don't know much about seramas, and traded a pair of Silkies for the pair. I'm learning more about them everyday, and they're so fun!
All I know is they're Class A, and the tiniest chickens EVER!!! They're almost out od quarantine, but I'm not sure if they can go in the dog lot I have for them without walking through the holes. May have to make yet ANOTHER chicken coop, lol!
Thanks for the info!

In the real searma world of showing etc..we NEVER talk about class size etc..as long as the bird meets weight requirements IF it gets to tier 2 at a tabletop show AND the judge feels the bird might be too heavy, then they are weighed.
The "class A" birds are generally speaking infertile, have egg laying problems, live shorter lives, etc, because off their small size. enuff said :)

Hope my babies do fine! So far just one egg. That was two days ago. I am still learning so much! First year of my chickens I had Polish. Second year I added Silkies, and toward the end some Cochins. Now I've got the Serama (Which was a spur of the moment when I was offered the trade) and don't know very much about them. Just that they came from a breeder who gave the shots for medication, said they were very healthy, and 'class a' hopefully they'll be able to breed fine! My friend has their siblings and is incubating some eggs of theirs and they're developing great.
I haven't shown any birds yet, but am planning to in the future. Have several SQ birds, and am looking for a show close.
Oh, and here's some pics!
First is the roo, named Cliph (Pronouced Cliff)
Second is a terrible pic of the pair
and third is the hen, Anastasia
