American serama thread!

Why in a few years?
Right now I live in Sweden with my fiance! I'm from New York, but he's Swedish and he's studying in university right now. In Sweden the school pays YOU while you get a higher education! So I won't be moving back to the states with him for another 2 or 3 years.

So right now, I'm just learning everything I can about Seramas and chickens in general! I really can't wait to get started!

I would definitely want straight feathered, and pet quality is fine with me! I just think they're adorable, I probably won't get too fancy and want to show them or anything. They would just be my pets! I do love the roos who stand so vertical that they look like they might fall backwards.

My plan for the future is I'd get a rooster and 2 hens, and maybe hatch a few chicks sometime for my personal enjoyment. I just think they're really cool little chickens. I've read that you can breed together 2 different colors and end up with pretty much any color chicks, I think that would be fun to experience, and I'd keep them as pets too. I have plenty of time to learn more about Serama!

Ok cool, they are a lot of fun! I would Get as good Quailty as possible, Just because you are planning on hatching, That way you will be able to Get rid of any extras a lot Easier. Not only can you breed two Different colored birds and get different color chicks, you can Breed two of the same color and get a different color!

That's a good idea. My little sister is interested in sharing any extras I get (when the time comes). I have heard that about breeding the same colors too! That is really cool, it will be so exciting to see what colors come out when I do eventually get Seramas and let them breed!

I've heard shipped Serama eggs are really hard to hatch, but I just saw today that mypetchicken.com started offering Serama eggs this year in straight and frizzle varieties! I hope someone orders and hatches some eggs from them so we can see the quality!

Quote from their Serama hatching eggs page:
"Most of our Seramas are B-Class and we are working hard to breed for a correct, upright bird. There's about a 25% chance you'll get a Frizzled Serama out of your hatch, and a 10% you'll get a Silkied Serama! The remaining 65% will be normal Seramas. All of our Serama eggs are a creamy color. "

I wouldn't get eggs from a place that does that many eggs, You get more of a chance that they will have infertile or Anonamalys in the eggs, get eggs from a breeder, If I am still planning on selling eggs when you are ready I could get you some.

That is great! Hope you get seramas soon. They have such personality! I have heard MyPetChicken is a good seller and that the eggs come from breeders not directly from them. Good luck!
