American serama thread!

Yes, I believe you can tell if the chick has potential. Of course there is no way to know what his back will look like when mature, but I think Spaz has a good chance of being really good.

If you look at pictures of other chicks his age you'll see what I mean.

Got to meet and greet today and purchased 3 new little ones. Very nice birds and the smallest I've seen in my general area which consists of the whole northern part of Wisconsin. There was another breeder 2 hours away of me close to the MN border but has relocated out of state due to husband's job. It was nice to find someone so close to home(within 10 miles) I can't wait until a few more weeks to see if my guesses on sex is correct or not. Photos to come.

Thank you for the kind words. I hope they develop well and are the sexes you're hoping for.

your Fertility seems to be doing so much better since you switched roosters!

While the fertility has improved I do wonder about quality. I'm looking forward to watching these new chicks grow. In the meantime I'm going back to the first rooster as I know his chicks will end up good. Quality is better than quantity. But, this last batch is more uniform in size than my first chicks. I guess I'll just have to keep thinking on this. My older hens will not be laying for awhile so I have some time.

Ummm yes. Silly me I didn't even think about that. She was in a pen with 3 roosters

Then you can start saving the eggs immediately. That also would help explain her poor feather condition.  Was there a number of pullets/hens in the pen/cage as well?

Yes it was probally 15 inches by 30 in cage with a 1 foot by 1 foot box and no run or exercise area. And there was 7 to 10 ish hens and 3 roosters. All the rest were well feathered.
