I have a young hen (Midget) that has been brooding her second clutch of eggs for a week now. The odd thing is that she has not weaned her first chicks. The chicks spend a lot of time sitting next to mom and do not go far from where the hen is brooding. And if they get scared it is a quick dash to mom and the nest. I have never seen this behavior before. Have any of you?

Alright... this is a long shot but here it goes, i was sent eggs from a friend and out of 12 only 4 hatched (3 died 24 hours after hatch) i now have one left and i feel sorry for her shes all alone and to small to put with my other birds, stuffed animals dont work, feather duster doesnt work, nothing. so my question is does anyone close to Cali have a few extra eggs or a small ish bird that could be sent? theres nothing else i can think of to help this little one, she chirps constantly in her brooder, she had a special needs EE friend but she passed away so now idk. please pm me if you can help. im to the point of it doesnt even have to be serama, oegb, nankin, dutch bantams any of those would work i just need someone her size

Yes this happened to me with my bantam cochin. She started laying again and wanted to start over with her eggs. The chicks kept wanting to come into her nest box so I had to separate her with new eggs. The chicks were old enough to not need her heat. She just hatched that group a few days ago. She is taking a break after this one!

When I have been in that position, I find a feed store that has young chicks and get a couple... Or check your local Craigslist...

Feed stores here are done for the year (one has 3 turkeys thats it) and craigslist only has adults, ive already been looking there
