I work at a medical school.. I have convinced a research student to research a blood test like a wing prick to detect sex gene ! I might be dead before it happens but they are starting to work on it. To know asap at hatch!

That would be awesome. And I could see that making a fortune for whoever could come until with it.

These are all about the same age, give or take a few days (hatched by a group of broodies). Black one (exchequer) very obviously male. I’m not convinced another one isn’t male too. But it sure would be a nice change for me to get more girls than boys from one hatch! There is one more not pictured, looks about the same as the lesser developed ones.

Those serama chicks are beyond cute!

Our little Noodle laid a few eggs & then tried to go broody. On a whim, we put most of her eggs into the incubator but only 2 developed. (One was supposed to hatch on Sat - nothing! I just did the egg autopsy this afternoon & saw that the yolk was absorbed & the navel was almost sealed. It would have been white like our silkied serma. ) The other egg will be due around 9-15. ) Noodle's young (5.5 months) , so I'm not too concerned. The roo is also young / inexperienced, so again it's too early to worry about fertility. I just wanted a little more cuteness.

My only concern is that after persuading Noodle not to hatch eggs, she has yet to return to laying. Our OEG bantam is finally getting pink faced, so perhaps she'll begin laying soon. She's from the same hatch.
