He is such a doll!
I am guilty of bringing a few seramas inside when its been cold, but only when I felt they were too young (momma turned them loose at 4 weeks!) or if one doesn't seem to be feeling well. I had Peaches inside for most of last winter, kinda respiratory thing. Treated her but didn't have the heart to toss her back out when she was used to the warmth. I actually liked having her inside
We get cold, multiple snow storms, sub-zero, freezing... but never for long periods at a time without getting above 30°. Like we may get down to 20° overnight, but days get up in the 40's. Very seldom will it stay below freezing for more than a couple days at a time.
Thank you! (and a million thanks again for your wonderful, super-fertile eggs!)
So you don't put supplemental heat in their coop? NJ winters aren't brutal, but they do get into the teens occasionally. My hub was gonna rig some kind of small, non-flammable heat source for them.
I really dig their personalities. They seem much friendlier than regular chickens. I will always have them.
I need to post some better, more recent pics, but they are always moving!
Congrats! I hope they turn out to be the frizzled & silkied seramas for you....but of course, they're all cute!4 chicks from Silkie feathered Cajun View attachment 1540680 View attachment 1540682 View attachment 1540683 and frizzled mottled Sabine .
They are all mottled. Hoping for a frizzled pullet... Think maybe all chicks from that pairing will be mottled or cuckoo .
