American serama thread!

We have 6 serama chicks so far and a Silkie. However I tried to move broody, chicks and eggs out of the nest box and to the broody area but she was having no part of it, all the chicks went under my other broody with a Silkie chick that hatched over the weekend. I guess she will just adopt all these chicks she didn’t hatch. Everyone is content. I put the other broody back in the nest box with the rest of the eggs. Can’t wait to see what colors they feather out.

Had a tax day hatch. Mostly Orpingtons & Spitzhaubens, but a couple seramas were in the mix.

I had an OEG go broody a week ago. 1st time broody & she accidentally killed a serama chick when I 1st put them together. I felt horrible! I tried again the next day by giving her just one chick overnight. The next morning I gradually increased the number of chicks. Once I was sure she was bonded, I brought her & the chicks inside to the brooder.

Now she's one happy mama with 14 chicks.

Here she is at night with all but one chick under her. There's supplemental heat, of course.

Final count for hatch is 9 serama and 2 Silkie possible Silkie x serama cross. They are cute active little bits. Eating and drinking on hatch day which I’ve never seen my Silkies do. I keep finding myself going out and sitting in the broody pen with them. I have them with 2 broody I can’t get my white broody to move to the broody pen she just throws a big tantrum. In the past she moves with chicks, so I setup another area around the nest box.
