American serama thread!

I thought pullet at first, though in the one pic, the wattle showing gives me a bit of pause. But for 7 weeks, I’d have to stick with pullet.
Pretty babies!

Here are some updated pics of the chicks above.
The little white one (who always sheltered under the bigger dark one) is now "Mr Obvious" That little hint of pink developed into a small red comb which continues to grow. No hiding the fact; he's a boy.View attachment 2885650

The bigger dark chick continues to perch on top of the waterer. Size and personality had me guessing male...... but still no real physical male traits. Those tiny wattles have not changed in 3 weeks and the comb is still shorter than its head fluff/feathers. Will turn 7 weeks tomorrow, so I'd expect more growth by now.

Any guesses of gender? @homeschoolin momma @ColtHandorf @WVduckchick @nchls school

Pullet

What do y’all think of this pullet - color/pattern-wise. She’s an odd color for me. Kinda dark blueish looking, especially next to my solid black hen.

Good Morning Group,

How is everyone doing? It has been a while since I really posted more than a word or so. I've gotten the birds ready for winter, though winter here is more like early spring in my home state of WI. Apparently the birds think so too as many are nesting-laying eggs-hatching chicks and ducklings. It seems every time I go outside I'm finding new nests; serama, phoenix, and ducks. Watching them from the kitchen window, I'd swear it was spring out there if I didn't know better. Last year my turkeys started nesting in January. From what I'm seeing, I think nesting season may be even earlier this season. I hope all of you are well.

My turkey (6mo old) is already laying!
Not sure what's going on. I have 3, soon to be 4 fertile eggs. I'm doing my best to keep the incubator in storage. Must resist. Must resist!

I'm a little south of you - Chicago area- but we also get those way below zero days in winter. This fall has been odd and the leaves are still on some trees. Normally they're done by Halloween. My Magnolia has buds. The birds aren't the only things thinking it's spring.

I'm way south of you now-Tennessee. We moved away from the WI cold. I have a fruit tree starting to bloom and I've heard of others down here that have fruit trees in bloom-a crazy and bad year.

What kind of turkey? I have midget white, an Oregon gray, and Eastern Wild Turkeys. It's the Oregon gray that looked to be starting nesting mode; she's also the bird that started to nest in Jan. last year.
I just came in from collecting eggs and found the turkey's nest; two eggs in it so I brought them in after replacing the eggs with dummy eggs (going to freeze hard tonight)-now to decide if I let the hen hatch the eggs. She'd have to be moved to a warm location. Turkeys are easier to move than broody chickens, but do I want...

I have my incubator going; call eggs, runner eggs, and the smallest size set of serama eggs I've had to date-look like pigeon eggs but pointy. The hen's first clutch were clear. I candled these five and each is developing-yeah.

I started using an incubator again after years of saying 'bators were a pain. A cheap Safego, but the most reliable machine-hatches eggs better than the birds do.

Sunny here. Hope your day is too.
