American serama thread!

All of Marilyn's chicks will be either frizzle or carry the frizzle gene ... if I understand it correctly - someone let me know if I'm wrong!!! Both of her parents were frizzles ... so does that make her really a sizzle? And if both of her parents were frizzle, does that mean all of her chicks will be frizzle too? I'm thinking this is correct since she got a copy of the gene from each parent. Gesh! I need to buy a genetics book!

K I'm searching about frizzle ...
Frizzle x Smooth = 50% frizzle and 50% smooth ... now to research if the smooth carries frizzle or not LOL!

I think a sizzle is a silkie/frizzle. I think a double frizzle is called a curly and if she is a curly then all her offspring should be a frizzle, if breed with a smooth. I think zoomumzy can correct me on this. If marilyn is a curly they are more fragile...i think the feathers break easier and they can hot easy and cold easy.

K the more I read, I don't think the smooth babies will carry it because it is incompletely dominant ... then there are some modifier genes that really muck it up ... still reading though!

Here's a photo of my "Little Family". She weighs 8 oz.....he is a whopping 10 oz. He is proudly coaching and assisting in laying the egg. Men always think they can do everything better.

Thanks, I have to learn how to pose them. All I do is hold them, talk to them, and feed they a few treats from my hand. I could spend the day just watching them!

Okay, we just need to ask Sonoran Silkies on the Arizona Thread!!!
Here is her post on the issue and she has nice charts and everything. I'm still digesting it though!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=2871647

She calls frizzle x frizzle offspring like Marilyn a "Curley" ... so here is her table and 100% of her chicks should be frizzle!!!

*from Sonoran Silkies post, link above*
CurleyXNon-frizzle 100% frizzle offspring

F Ff Ff
F Ff Ff

Oh, of course that assumes we have no frizzle modifier genes ... they can make a genetically frizzle bird look smooth. Stinkin modifier genes!!!

Posing isn't all it's cracked up to be ... it's nice to see Seramas just being chickens and enjoying life, without just having them posed in all of the pictures. I mean lets face it, mine pose a small percentage of the day. The rest of the time they are taking dust baths, eating, being silly, napping, standing under the misters getting their feathers all wet, etc ... 99% of their time is doing other things
