American serama thread!

If your bird LOOKS smooth, then it does not carry a gene for frizzle (frizzle is dominant and cannot be hidden)....it MAY carry a hidden gene for silkied because silkied is recessive (can be hidden). ONLY breed frizzled X smooth....NEVER frizzled X frizzled. (I personally do not mix frizzled with silkied).

Actually, a couple of my roosters have frizzled cape feathers but the rest of them are smooth so I was told they carry the frizzled gene. My little pullet is completely smooth except for frizzled back feathers. I also have a frizzled silkied from Juliette that I'm going to breed to my silkied roo. I love the frizzled silkied look as well as the frizzled, but I think it is a personal preference. I have lots of people who want only smooth eggs from me and just as many who want frizzled or silkied only.

Oh, you know I think I probably had one chick that carried frizzle then, it was from a shipped egg, and it had just a few frizzled feathers and otherwise was smooth. Or, maybe it was frizzled with the modifier gene suppressing the frizzle.

I just love them all, smooth, frizzle and silkie

Here's the two babies

The other egg hasn't pipped yet, but I can see the baby still moving, so maybe just not quite ready.
So, just took a quick picture since I was opening up real fast to candle egg #3 that hadn't pipped, couldn't resist!
