American serama thread!

just looking thru all the adorable pic of your little birdies- I want some! Anybody near me that sells these little guys? Central IL? I don't need high quality, altho that would be preferable, but I just want a pair as housepets, not for breeding and don't want to waste the good bloodlines by not breeding them. If I did find a set for pets, would it be better to get two hens or a hen and a rooster? I don't want a lonely chicken

Just a heads up..........I was not going to breed either and I now have my original trio plus 16 babies and 8 in the incubator!! They are like potato chips......beware!

Well tail docking isn't the same as cropping ears on dogs. Cockers(for instance) get tails docked at about 3 days old. The pups squeak when it's done but seem to show no pain afterwards. Ears are a much bigger deal and are done when the pup is older - that is a painful healing and recovery period.

woke up this morning and all the chicks were fine....fed them they were eating and such..... went back to clean cages after about an hour and found my youngest dead in a corner..... ugh i feel so bad he was super cute and lively i have no idea what happened.... guess thats life with fuzzy butts.

it happens sometimes for no apparent reason. It's always sad, especially when it's the cute little runty ones IMO. Sometimes I think they maybe are just not well developed internally and things fail after a few days.
