American serama thread!

My DD cockerel decided to do the naked bird thing just before she was to fit and show him for fair (in September). He lost a bunch on his neck and his long beautiful sickle feathers. His wings were ratty too. Oh, well. He is looking pretty now.

Okay, lunch time is over. I have caught up on reading. Back to typing radiology.

So, I need to "train" the birds to strut their stuff. Is there a thread that helps with learning how to do this? Maybe on SCNA? I was unaware of this.

Thanks all. have a good day.

Just sharing my fave method of keeping the birds warm over the winter. Low wattage bulb, sealed hole for the cord, and keep the bulb from touching the tin. Everybody just piles on top of them!

That's what I use to keep their water from freezing. I may have to put an extra one in there for them to perch on or around. I used a different kind of bulb, though. I'll have to check to be sure mine don't get TOO hot!

The serama's 'strut' is due to its short back and big chest (the way they're built or 'type')....I don't train my birds (only to make them gentle), the rest comes natural. I don't think it would be possible for a long backed, flat chested bird to strut. This is why we say 'type' is so important. Its what makes a serama different.

I chose the 3 chicks that I liked the best from my 6week olds and 8 week olds. I have been working to get them to pose but it's slow going. I would like to know what you all think of them since I have never had Seramas this age, I do not know what to expect at this time in their development. There are 2 photos of each. I would also be interested in a guess on the color they are heading towards. I know they will continue to change. Thanks, Brenda

I figured as much...but everyone talks about teaching the to pose .... or they just started posing and I thought they meant they had to teach it...I dunno. I will be handeling mine a lot. Heck even my layers are handled quite a bit. They TOTALLY know what it means when the back door opens and person comes out...they come a runnin/flyin' (If they are all out in the yard at the time). They know that treats are usually nearby. Bread crusts are one of their favorites.
