Oh, thank you, ZooMummzy! Oh, really? That sounds so fun!

Yes, my friend Alexis (her name on BYC too) lives near me and she is an amazing photographer. Her photo is January in the BYC calendar (mine is February

) I'm very excited for her creativity with it. Zephyr is my spoiled rotten baby. I already commissioned a painting of him lol so it is only fitting he gets a photo shoot too

Wow, that is one doted-on birdie!! You remind me of some *other* chicken owner I know . . .

Oh, the BYC calendar! I'm so stupid, I didn't even realize they had them!

That sounds like a total blast. I've got to make sure my flock is not disease ridden first -- someone is showing possible marek's symptoms and I can't risk exposing anyone until I get the test results. I'm hoping it will come back negative, in which case I can start thinking about buying, selling, and visiting.

But once we've got a clean bill of health, I'll be there!

Sounds good to me and thank you for useing your brain some people don't understand why i make them wipe ther shoes down with bleach and water and use hand sanatizer before they can see my flock i just don't want to take any chance of my birds getting sick to much time and money involved to not care about those things . so yes for sure let me know when you can come visit and bring your camera . talk to you soon i hope .

Oh, absolutely. That is the way to go for sure. I'm glad to know you do that so that in the future if I have someone come visit my flock I won't feel too paranoid asking them to do that, myself.

Yeah, I'm using my brain now, and using my brain about other people's flocks. But the whole reason I'm in this situation with my seramas is that I took a lame hen from my outside flock and housed her in the garage (which is my workspace) with my seramas to get her out of the cold. I cannot BELIEVE I did that. I could have kept them isolated the way I've been trying to do all along, just in case. But I had her in the house trying to nurse her back to health for a week, and my boyfriend just kept asking me over and over to put her in the garage so she wouldn't be in the house anymore. He doesn't understand about bio-security at all. Well, I didn't listen to my instincts. I finally gave in and put her in the garage. Now it's looking more and more like Marek's.

Now nothing can come into or go out of my flock until this is resolved. I've paid for six hens from Kate, and now she's holding them for me until this is straightened out. I PRAY this isn't Marek's. If it is, well . . . I'll have to test every last one of my birds and go from there. I'm trying not to panic. Not until it's time.

just go with the flow untill you get your answer and then take the proper route to keep everyone safe even if that means culling every bird in your flock you can always rebuild as hard as its sounds things will work out for you . and i don't care what people think when i ask them to wash up before we look at the birds its not there time and money in my flock and they won't be here to fix the problem they left behind for me to deal with .

Okay everyone I have a problem. My first bird who is a Silkie/Serama mix used to be the sweetest bird in the world. He was the only hatch out of the batch so he got alot of attention, but never really got to socialize with other birds. So when I got a pair, I stuck him in with them, thinking it would be good for him. And they seemed to get along great, except for the occasional scuffle cause the other male was dominate. But he got really distant and then started to BITE. And only me. He bites my hands when ever I put food or water in the cage or got to pick him up. And not gently either, I have bruises and welts from him biting me. Once I pick him up he calms down but I don't know how to get him to be the sweetie he used to be.. I have had him fall asleep in my lap and he lets me pet him when I finally get ahold of him, but he's just really distant. Should I give up hope? Is that sweet little bird gone? I had thought of sending him to my friends farm to stay where he'd be with other birds and have lots of room since he doesn't seem to want to be my pet any more, which he always was. But he was my first bird and WAS my baby, so it's kind of hard for me to decide on what to do. Any sugestions?
