My first chick of the year was one single peep, hatched on my birthday. I've decided that my hatching problems were related to my turner not being plugged in, and my hatcher humidity fluctuating too much. The turner is now turning, I have an IV strung through the vent hole on the hatcher, and I'm hoping that the next few weeks show some fruition to my changes. Of course, the hens abruptly stopped laying......

Anyway, here's birthday chick in his first photo-op. I have a 5 year old cat, Macaroni, who likes the babies:

I have a baby cat, Watson (yes, Watson is a girl), who LOVES them!

I just love all of the pictures, guys! Macaroni the cat looks like my orange cat, Susie. She is terrified of the chickens.

I didn't know that dial-up still existed either.

Townhouse: another thing I keep for my babies is durvet tetracyline in case they get a cold. Galamycin/ Gentamycin is good too. I always give my new arrivals a week long course of sulmet or tetracyline just to make sure they won't develop anything while in quarantine. I give tetracycline to any of my birds who might look like they're having a common cold. It's really good stuff. More goodies in my chicky first aid kit: bag balm, petroleum jelly, personal lube for the ladies with egg trouble (LOL), nail clippers and file, sevin dust, natur vet puppy shampoo, flour (for little hatchlings with yolk bellies - works every single time), stop pick, quick clot, small cuticle scissors, medical tape and guaze, baby oil, a good wormer like peperazine-17, tweezers, normal saline, vitamins and electrolytes, liquid calcium, tumms, and a bottle of low dose baby aspirins. I'm sure there are more goodies in there that I have missed but you get the idea! Never can be too careful! What do you guys keep in stock for your babes??

Anna - my hubby accused me of loving the chickies more than him too LOL. Who couldn't love such sweet fluffy bundles? When I hatch them I feel that they are my responsibility. I'm chicken mommy and my hubby is chicken daddy. He loves the babies just as much as I do.

WOW I have vitamins and Electrolytes, patrolium jelly, puppy shampoo, flour, clippers and file, cuticle scissors, gauze and tape, tweezers, tumms, but I could use the liquid callcium, I do have Wazine for worms, but I could use tetracycline and I'd like to get some stuff for fungle infections just incase. But the bank has been spent this month. I think I have 20 bucks left for the whole month of February...

I got my liquid calcium from my local feed store The Flour Mill. They can order in anything I need, even Mareks Vaccine. The liquid calcium I bought is called "Egg Maker" and it's only $8. If you can't find something most feed stores (especially veterinary feed stores) can order it for you. You can also find liquid calcium at some pharmacies. If all else fails you can dissolve some tumms in water - crush them up into powder first.

I am taking a roadtrip to the west side of the state, guys! I will be back in a couple of days. Wish me luck! Anna, if you find anyone with a black ski mask and a flashlight in your chicken coops IT ISN'T ME.
