Thank you!
Gorgeous youngens, JulieNKC! Can't wait until mine are old enough to tell who is a girl and who is a boy! LOL
Thanks. My for sure roo's comb popped right out at a few weeks, lol. One of the younger one's might still possibly be a roo, but I think I ended up with one boy and 4 girls.

I just love pics of the young birds, I especially like when people post pictures so you can see how they changed from a month old to full grown.

I put my 2 chicks out in the brooder in the shop tonight. I have it as warm as I can possibly make it for them, and they seem to be enjoying it... running around investigating things. I also covered the front of the adult bird's cages with plastic so maybe their body heat will keep them a little warmer. The low is 28 tonight, going by the forecast tonight will be the coldest night of the week. I'm so not ready for when winter really sets in. I've been trying to talk my husband into moving south and he wants to move north.. so we are at a stand still in the middle lol.
My d'uccles and japanese are still trying to sleep out in the run and on top of their coop instead of inside, and it's supposed to be in the 20's here too. I've been picking them all up and putting them in the coop, but I'm about to wrap the sides in plastic and give up, lol. I would love to move south, I hate breaking ice for the ducks all winter.

Oh, lucky lucky! Fingers crossed I have as much luck??!!!

It was down in the low 40's here last night, if not 40 degrees, and tonight it starts warming up again, should be 48. This is the time of year I can breath, not blistering, air sucking hot! So glad that summer is over again!

Well guys, I'm gonna do it again! I am expecting 24+ eggs this week, so I should have new babies the first week of December. :D Gotta get my incubator plugged in tomorrow morning to get that sucker ready :D

Quote: I have a hard time sleeping and I usually end up heading out to the shop a couple of times a night especially when it is cold so I can make sure lamps are still working etc... on my way by I usually see my ducks out playing in the water. I have seen them out as late as 2am! They sleep later then the chickens... I guess the ducks are night owls like me lol. They eventually put themselves up, they just like to play longer I guess.

Aschenfire, I know you've had some bad lucks lately, but I really hope this time you have a great hatch!

Oh, Pinx, that sounds really nice, having a shop with all your birds and a pond with ducks! How awesome! My hubby is from Texas, and I'm really workin him to go back, ROFL. I love the Hill country!

I should have a great hatch this time...got my new thermometer and hygrometer, which should fix my issues (it was the thermo all along causing the failure to hatch)

Can't wait... I need more pullets :D (Also just arranged to buy a black-tailed buff hen for my Crele boy... she should be here in about two weeks or less)

I'm in the plains, not much to look at here but dead grass and the occasional Mesa... Trees are few and far between unless someone has planted them. In my area Yucca and mesquite are as abundant as weeds. The wind blows ALL the time. I do have a picture that my aunt sent me yesterday about 30 miles away from me... standing next to a tumble weed that was taller then her and she is about 5'9! lol

I want to go further south east, deeper into Texas where it is greener, warmer, and trees are more common lol. Either way... I would rather be in my part of Texas then anywhere outside of Texas. Love my state, and the people in it are just a different breed.

As far as the shop, I don't think my Serama would survive outside with our cold winters and the blowing wind on top of that, that cuts you in half. We have more Ice in our winter storms then snow lol. It is beautiful though driving down the street and seeing the trees weighed down with ice, like a winter wonderland.

Aschenfire! My husband was telling me that they've come up with a machine that can sample a tiny bit of the freshly laid egg and test it to see if it carried the male or female genetics. Sort of like a chicken amnio, LOL. Personally, I can't figure how they'd do that without taking material from the bull's eye, and not damage the embryo? But maybe some day, we can all do that?

I agree, Pinx, Texas is full of really nice people that are friendly and the state is beautiful with just about every kind of climate!.

My goodness, I just realized my chicks are two weeks old yesterday! They're still the size of a normal newborn! Gosh! I guess my Henrietta really must be a girl, she's 4 weeks old and no sign of color on her tiny comb.... I wanted her to be a boy, but it's ok, she's beautiful :)

Hey folks, your resident lurker here. I have done eggshell sexing for some time from Avian Biotech. I used it with my Cockatoo and my Amazon. http://www.avianbiotech.com/SexingCenter.htm
They do other tests as well and even do color testing for horses now. They are super fast and nice to deal with. It isn't exactly cheap, but if you had a specific bird you really wanted to know the sex of and was sure of its shell, you can have it done. They usually email you the results in less than 48 hrs. Then you get a certificate in the mail.

JulieNKC cute chicks....that one looks like a tiny eagle.

Good luck to one and all with eggs in the bator. I am on day 15 and almost holding my breath now. Its only 6 but looks like 5 are still holding on. And my freebie jap bantam is too.
