Amers d’Anvers

Pics
If you search for me and posts about my d'anvers, I also got my eggs from them if you want to see what their adult birds look like. Something tells me that they have most of their d'anvers in a pen just all breeding together. I asked if they were going to have red millefleurs this year and they said no.
I will do that, thanks! Do they seem to be healthy birds? Or are they breeding too many together? They’re flying a long way to CA, so I’m not sure I’ll have much hatching success either. Was a total impulse buy since my d’Uccles hatch of shipped eggs was so poor. The d’Anvers are so hard to find.

They are doing really well so far. They will be a year old in May. So far no illnesses or issues, they handled minneapolis winter with grace.

I paid for a dozen and they shipped 2 extra for a total of 14 eggs that were set. Six made it to hatch. The air cells in my eggs were a disaster. Couple yolkers, two early deaths, two late deaths. I ended up with 3 pullets, 3 cockerels. All the cockerels had major disqualifying faults, such as having zero beard or muff whatsoever, and an inverted spike comb. My hens look nice. They don't posture very often, and I think the porcelain in particular is always sort of gamey looking. They have beards but they lay sort of pasted to their chests instead of being robust and fluffy. These are my most recent photos of them. The red millefleur has the best personality of all my birds, she's very curious and tame. Her sisters however are cautious. I should mention, I have clipped the flight feathers on the bird's left wings. They are incredibly agile and can achieve full flight. I clipped them before they ended up places I couldn't retrieve them. I have a neighbor who's a very cranky man that doesn't speak english and the last thing I need is them jumping my fence lmao.

Awww they’re adorable! I’m really hoping they have good personalities so that’s nice to hear! Also good to know about the flying! My d’Uccles don’t seem interested in flying much, but my Olandsk Dwarf birds can fly really well 😣 I had to bird net everything haha. Definitely don’t want your bird in a cranky neighbors lawn! I may not get any that hatch as I only bought 6 eggs and they’re coming a long way. So we will see! There’s a lady that has some down south of me 3.5 hours, she just doesn’t ship eggs. So I may go that route if this fails. Your girls are super pretty! I love that porcelain color 😍 thanks for sharing!

Not sure if I mentioned to you already (I remember telling someone), but Privett Hatchery in NM ships d'Anvers chicks. I had just the most adorable one from them, but had to rehome because I had too many girls (always a tragedy)!! Ideal poultry also has them (way more colors), and allows for very small orders. (Hiding eyes from order page... not really).

I was hoping to get at least 4 from my hatch…but they shipped on the 21st from Ohio and didn’t get to me in CA until the 28th…so I’m guessing they got jostled around a LOT. 😢 So I got two out of eight eggs. But, because of that I decided to look at eBay again and found a breeder from Fresno that shows his birds…so I’m gonna try another batch in other colors! I think he has black and cuckoo. I’m excited 😊
