amish neighbor sells feed, would that be ok to feed chickens?

the Amish near us have all different breeds of chickens. their animals all look well cared for. As for their chickens, they are all free ranged and put up at night. I guess it all depends...just like other people might not be nice to their animals.. but I will definitely ask questions. Thank you for your input, everyone!

Why would you think that they are "organic"????? I would ask alot of questions.
And all the amish I know use nothing other than sex links and don't free range them. I have seen alot of hens crammed into relatively small quarters, but do have 'outside' runs.

Yeah, the Amish around here do free range, but I know that their stuff in most definitely not organic in the least bit. I would say about 90% of them all use fertilizer and pesticides, around here they are some of the worst offenders of pesticides actually. As for the animals it ranges from each farm. I know the man I buy our chicken feed from, BlueSeal not his, use to own 1500 chickens at a time and he has no room for them except a very large barn, they were not free ranged. It all depends.

I'm really sorry that the Amish people that I was associated with many years ago were so much different than the ones now. Things change,I guess.

Knowing that is probably 100% organic with no additives as they do not fertilize their crops with chemicals

Question for you,
Do you personally know any Amish?
I do and and a good many of them that I know are considered good friends and I will guarantee you that they are by far 100% "Organic".

Most of the Amish around here are far from the Amish that everyone seems to associate with. They buy all of their products from big companies already packaged and then resell them to the community. They spray their fields with pesticide and they use Miracle Grow and such on their flowers at the greenhouse. They do drive around in horse and buggy, but do most of their grocery shopping at the local grocery. There are very few that still sell homemade goods around here any more.

The Amish farmer I have bought feed from uses Fertrell products and recipes. He even has a no soy recipe & does very well. Everyone is very happy with his feeds. His farm is organic BECAUSE it is good business & he can make money in this area. He has followed the trends & makes money off of them. People seem to know exactly what their Amish neighbors are doing.

I think the best plan would be to get the facts on the feed, and go from there. It could be nothing but corn, or it could be awesome. They'll probably be happy to tell you all about what they're selling.

Now, I would not touch most Amish trained horse for all the money in the world, but that's a separate issue.

Yes, many of them have turned to organic production because it is good business, but doing it organically is not necessarily part of "being Amish". Their production methods vary as much as our's do.
