An interesting/beautiful mix breed! PIC!

If I know what the cross is, that is what I call a mix. In the case of the OP's bird, AmeraucanaXCochin. Once you get a generation or two into mixes I stop specifying, and they become "yard roosters" and "laying flock". But I can still tell (my own birds) pretty well what breeds they have in them.

I just read this thread for the first time.

I have a couple of EEs made from araucanas and cochins, and probably ameraucanas (I didn't do it!). They are both rumpless with feathered legs and pea combs, and one of em has a beard and muffs. They've got it all.

I can't wait to see what sort of eggs they lay.

I know that was me. I made the comment, she was wondering if she would get a blue egg layer since the mother was a blue egg laying ameraucana and my experience was that mine did but said that was only my experience.

It doesn't matter. It's not important. We were responding to this post:

I tend to think the pea comb is not as close to the blue egg gene as folks believe. I bred EEs for years. I had pea combed hens who laid brown eggs and have bred pea comb to pea comb and got brown egg layers. I've also seen single combed birds lay blue and green eggs. IMO there is more to it than the comb and egg gene.
