An "old friend" came back by for a "visit" ~ pics~

Be careful, though non poisonous snakes rarely bite, a bite can still cause serious infections. Snakes are like any other reptile and their mouth is full of bacteria. A non treated non poisonous snake bite can actually be lethal. I have been bitten twice by a rock python, after extensive cleaning I procured antibiotics from my doctor to be on the safe side.

I doubt a garter snake could break the skin though. And I have been bitten by a corn snake and it did not break the skin.

I would strongly suggest that you stop picking up snakes. It sounds like you have bad luck with them.

I had a couple pet rocks you are bound to get struck every once in a while if you handle snakes. Nothing ever serious just young snakes sometimes get confused with smells as soon as they struck they let go. The corn snake was a pet store snake and just had a bad disposition. I don't own snakes anymore, would NEVER own a poisonous snake. Most snakes will not strike unless threatened or hungry, and then they usually do not attack anything they cannot eat.

Anytime you handle or own animals that have teeth you can expect sooner or later to get nipped.

Sorry, I was just teasing you. I figured they were pets.

I used to do wildlife rescue. So I'll see your snake bite and raise you a raccoon bite. If that's not bad enough, I tell you about the time an angry horse almost ripped my boob off with her teeth.

But, back to snakes. I don't care how big they are. They horrify me.

I suffered a horse bite when I was very young, it hurt enough to make me scared of horses for a while. A raccoon bite would be awful they have a lot of very sharp teeth. My brother was attacked by a squirrel that jumped from a tree onto his back. Lucky for him it was winter and only the coat got clawed.

When I lived in Texas rattlesnake bites were common, they were everywhere. But few serious bites or deaths, it seems when a rattlesnake strikes out of surprise there sometimes is no venom on the first strike. I always took a stick down to the basement to do laundry. Seems they like hiding under dryers, and washing machines.

Hey yall, I had trouble with my computer last night, kept locking up on me...
ursusarctosana, I checked out hose links & the one from Carolina Nature had the one that just like the moccasin here.It was the 4th & 5th pic on there.

I have encountered a Diamond back water snake before. I came across this one on a log in front of our place.
It was a cool morning & it wasn't moving much at all.

Never will forget it.

Just to let everyone know, we don't have any children here.We live on a dead end road, surrounded by woods & thousands of acres of farmland behind us. I completely understand most poeple won't want something like that around. There are thousnads more snakes & gosh know what here, we just try to let them be.

I am just fasinated by it all, since I moved here 7 years ago.I was raisied in the city & enjoy all wonders of nature here.

Thanks everyone, Miriam

You are correct! I really enjoyed that. Thank you for posting those detailed photos and showing what the snakes look like after you poured water on them. Those are awesome photographs! I love detailed information.

You may not believe this, but YOU MADE MY DAY!
