An "old friend" came back by for a "visit" ~ pics~

...and don't you just love the descriptions of the scales on their belly - like I am going to pick one up, turn it over and examine it to see if it is poisonous!!!

I have never seen a poisonous snake on our place, even though I know they are in this area. I like having snakes around, but I doubt that I would feel the same if I knew it was dangerous.

LOL. Most people wouldn't. Perhaps they mean if the snake is found dead in the road or if the person kills the snake and THEN attempts to identify it.

Unless they're Steve Erwin or one of the religious snake handlers with Hallelujah Skills!

That is one big snake!!!! I've had a big black snake in the yard, but I suspect he is dead now...eating a golf ball will do that to a snake. The only venomous snake I've seen in the yard is a coral snake, a very long time ago. The cats were trying to play with it, stupid gits! I consider myself very fortunate NOT to have friends like that in my yard.

you do know they will kill and eat you chickens and eggs for sure but they are also very aggrvise snake you should kill it,if you have kids playing outside ,and this coming from a snake owner I have snakes as pet but i kill those

Hmmm, not really scared of snakes around here, but then, most of ours are harmless, except the rattler and he isn't as bad as many poisonous snakes. Also, most of ours aren't that large! Definitely would not want to find that bad boy in my yard!!

I swear I'm going to kiss the first garter snake I see this summer! I am SOOO glad we don't have venomous snakes in our part of Connecticut very often. I've never seen one and hope I never do.

Be careful, though non poisonous snakes rarely bite, a bite can still cause serious infections. Snakes are like any other reptile and their mouth is full of bacteria. A non treated non poisonous snake bite can actually be lethal. I have been bitten twice by a rock python, after extensive cleaning I procured antibiotics from my doctor to be on the safe side.

I doubt a garter snake could break the skin though. And I have been bitten by a corn snake and it did not break the skin.

LOL, rest assured I was being facetious!! I'm just saying I'm suddenly very thankful that the occasional garter is the only slithery thing to enter my little yard. They are welcome but I have no intention of spending any time around them, nevermind making any sort of contact.
