It very well could be. Ancona bantams are practically non-existant in the US. I wouldn't be surprised if they were from a recreated flock. Mottled Japanese (Chabo) on a white Leghorn? The type is the throw-off.

She doesn´t look like an Ancona bantam to me.

Could you give me reasons for why you think it is a cross. The man I purchased her from said he had searched far and wide for Ancona bantams, and finally had some adult birds shipped to him.

First of all, were she a cross, it would in no way be a bad thing. She's not a mutt; that would not be the implication. She has some nice markings and very goo feather quality. There I definite intentionality behind her. It is her stance and conformation (shape). It is this latter quality that defines a breed. She is not holding herself like a Mediterranean. The curve of her neck and the slant of her back are immediate flags. Her head, too, is not Mediterranean.

None of this is speaking a negative. So many birds are works in progress. As I mentioned above, Ancona bantams are exceedingly rare. She is an outstanding beginning for a project to continue selecting for standard breed characteristics. If the man from whom you purchased her is willing to ship, I'd be very interested in buying a couple of pairs.

Does anyone have rosecomb Anconas? Or the better question--will anyone have RC Ancona hatching eggs this spring?

I'm looking for a smaller bird that ranges & lays well to use in a chicken tractor. I can't do any single combs here.

Hey everyone! I figured since I have an ancona I should come say hi. I've only read a few pages of this thread, but I'd like to read it all!

Anyway, my ancona(hopefully girl) is only a bit over 3 weeks old right now....

That is Alice. Her favourite pastime is sitting on the edge of her brooder and staring at me before deciding to try and jump on my bed. She also enjoys eating, sleeping, her SLW buddy Lacey, and her RIR friend Pepper.

She looks mad in those pics because she didn't want to be outside =P
