Ancona Chicken Thread

Something in between :)
I am doing this cross because there are almost no bantams in Belgium and to improve type and health.

Hi all! We just got our first Ancona chick today at Rural King, of all places. So excited to have this beautiful breed!

Here's a pic of a really nice Rose comb Ancona pullet hatched last April 20th, 2013. Her type is strong; she's healthy and productive. Her mottling is well distributed, but the quality of the tipping is croche:

Well Joe, as you know, I know little to nothing. First of all: beautiful bird. She has a very balanced overall appearance.

I'm not sure what you mean by croche but I'm thinking her tipping is not as crisp as you'd like it to be?

Everything else looks good right? Will you breed her?

"Croche" means like saying "a bit crap". Black-based mottling in American fowl needs help across the board. They best we can do is breed them in number and then select as best we can.

Fpr breeding, though, yes; she's a very strong bird, and if I'm going to have croche mottling, it's best on a bird like this.

i Just received 25 black aust'ps. as soon as they are 6 weeks, I am planning to order some ana's.I am just a little concerned that they are too flighty.
