So the 12th of April we got 12 ancona duck eggs.

its been 28 days since and so far two have hatched.

one hatched with no problems

the second one was trying to hatch and couldnt move very well, we finally found out he got stuck in the egg because his head got caught so we assisted carefully and peeled back some of the egg where his head was located and left him there to hatch. He finally hatched after getting his head out of the egg and his bottom was still in the egg. he finally crawled out and was still attatched to the egg by veins so i was kind of scared and my heart is still beating my head into the wall saying i assisted to early, but now hes up and trying to walk without the attatchment to the egg, there was no yolk that i know of the only stuff that came out with him was a small amount of yellowish green liquid thats kinda gooey but like 10% clear. Is that normal?

hes moving around pretty good right now.

Im pretty nervous.... i probably should be im sure someone is going to say i deserve to be nervous for assisting.

uhm....

any pointers in case this one doesnt make it.

hes kinda leaning all over the place.....

could he just be exhausted from trying to hatch but making very little progress because when he was trying to hatch he like was not even trying he would try but then he would stop and hed been doing that for like 24 hours. and the hole was not getting any bigger than a big marble

I would just let him be. I had the same problem the other day and you should just let him rest with the attached egg. After waiting a few hours and the thing that attaches him to the egg dries completely up you can cut it off. Make sure there is now vein or anything before you cut it or it will bleed to death. The dried up thing will eventually fall off and your chick will have no problems whatsoever. You should also let him rest because there is nothing else left for you to do. Good luck and let me know if it worked

thank you so much, oh gosh, well he is fine, hes walking now and his egg is no longer attatched i keep checking on him and each time hes getting better at breathing and hes not breathing as hard but breathing well enough to live, kind of like a clam breath lol. ill keep my eye on him and let ya know :) if he gets weaker is there anything i can do to help him shape up?

Glad he's better! If he gets weaker make absolutely certain that he is are warm enough. You can try dribbling a few drops of sugar water alongside his beak. These empty calories can sometimes help give chicks enough energy to eat and drink on their own in earnest. This is not good long term, of course, as sugar has no nutrition to speak of, and too much sugar can give them diarrhea, which could cause pasting. However, the hydration and the burst of energy from the sugar can sometimes help them get over the hump. Keep me posted!

will definitely do thanks so much :) if he gets through this we'll be calling him Petrie lol from land before time since hes had one heck of a time it seems lol

okay so hes been floundering around in the incubator for 4 hours now is that normal? our first hatched one was up and standing within an hour to 30 mins after he was hatched :/

Hmm, what do you mean by floundering? Do his legs seem to be at a very wide and abnormal angle?

well no but he was falling down and then getting up and flipping over on his back. You know how a fish does? he was doing that but hes fine now he made it through the night :D im not concerned anymore since hes drinking water a bit :) The only thing im concerned about his his feathering down? .... its not fluffy.. ill post a pic. I'm not sure if its normal for a 2 day old brother duclking to be pecking at the day old duckling.

Are the other ducklings fluffed up? AND i've never had ducklings or chicks peck each other at such a young age. strange!
