Ancona Ducklings

I am hoping to find someone who would be willing to ship ancona ducklings. I would be interested in juveniles as well. Expedited shipping is a must!

They will be my lovely source of eggs. I'll also be hoping to hatch babies in the spring!

If it comes down to it shipping for a flat rate of 65 on continental Airlines might be an option as well! I know a lot of people are intimidated by the idea of shipping to Alaska but I have made myself aware of all aspects and can assure you it is not to difficult

Oh congratz! I was just reading about Anconas on http://www.albc-usa.org/ and it seemed like the breed was in dire straights. I suppose the info is pretty old though (2000 census).

Thank you, as far as I can tell they're still pretty hard to find. I believe that khaki cambells are doing well now as they're all over the place!

Anconas are still having an awful time, which I don't understand. I recently acquired 5 & I am IN LOVE. They are so mellow & funny & love their peas. I have spent a lot of time with a lot of breeds of duck but I scoured the world for Anconas this year & don't regret it at all. My plan WAS to get Welsh Harlequins or Silver Appleyards next year, but I may just add a few Anconas. In my region it seems like Anconas are the toughest to locate, followed by Harlequins & Appleyards. Cayugas, Campbells, all manner of Scovie & Call, and even a healthy number of Runner varieties find their way onto Craigslist & to the swaps, etc here.
I think the Craigslist listing section is a good way to see how troubled the future is looking for some of the most wonderful breeds of duck out there.

YAY for you! I am suppose to get TEN babies next week of Anconas. The first time I saw a picture of them, I knew I wanted them! I found a great article on them and their personalities....I will try to find it and post it here.

One thing I liked about the article...and people with Anconas can chime in and tell me what they know about this.....is it said that Anconas don't care about pecking order. Dominance isn't big on their life....even the lowest one on the pecking order is treated well by the rest.

I can't wait to get mine!!!

from what i have seen with my friends large, mixed flock - she has around 35 ducks, two trios of Ancona & some offspring - the Anconas seem to be completely uninterested in pecking order. when introducing new ducks she puts them in with her Anconas first & says that there is never any tension. after about 2 days she lets the Anconas bring the new ducks into the flock. (kind of like the mafia, "i'll vouch for him".) she says it doesn't matter what breed, size, etc... and she rehabs ducks recovering from injury with Anconas, too.

i'm completely obsessed, too. just LOVE them. i am fighting duck math like crazy since their arrival. they are even more fun than i thought they would be.

I love your babies. They are adorable and it makes me even more anxious to get mine!!!

I am so glad to hear some input about that breed and their personality. Whenever I read things like that, it is always so nice to get someones opinion on it...especially if they agree with whatever it was I read.

Well, we've been getting a bit of a cold spell here so we're going to wait till' next spring

All of the posts about how wonderfull they are sure makes me want them even more! I loved the pics and would love to see more!
