Thank you!

Thank you! She had 16 eggs in her nest! She wasn't sitting on them either! We found out that it's too late in the year for ducks to be broody!

She was just hording them. We took all the eggs out. We tried a fresh egg she laid the next morning. It tasted just like a chicken egg!! I have been gathering an egg a day from her! I hope next Spring she will sit on them! I want baby ducks!

Is there anything I should do before I eat her eggs other than washing them?

Thank you everyone! And I'm sorry I haven't been replying quickly.

Hmm I have a Pekin who has gone broody and an Ancona who might soon, so not sure who said they won't go broody so late in the year. Nope just wash then with warn water and whether or not you use soap that's up to you. I use an antibacterial soap and warm water on mine.

Thanks! Cackle Hatchery, (the hatchery I got my ducks from) said that it's too late in the year for my duck to be broody. They also said that she may never be broody? I have been washing the eggs in luck warm water. They are a lot harder to break than chicken eggs! Also, should I gather the eggs early in the morning, when it's cool outside? It's very HOT here during the afternoon!

Hi goatlover, I have ducks that look just like yours one problem I am in oz according to any info I can find they don't exist here sorry I can't post pic yet. I saved them from a mate's chopping block. He said they are xbred. But they have same look and carriage as yours. They make a totally different sound to my muscys more like a goose honk. I only took them in because I never seen anything like them on show or auction circuits and I guessing never ever will either. I only have two girls and as there's no magpie or stanbridge here in oz either I dont think there will be a next generation.

Hmm I wonder why they said that.. I've heard of ducks going broody in the dead of winter. Also Anconas are one of the more likely breeds to go broody. There is a small chance that she won't but more likely she will. Whenever you can get to them. The earlier the better but whenever you can is fine. Also I have an Ancona who has gone broody too. Hopefully I'll get some babies out of these two. Lol

Where is oz? I got my ducks from a hatchery. The breeds' name is called Ancona. I wonder why there isn't any Ancona ducks around were you are? My ducks don't sound like a goose. The male does have a deeper voice than the females though. Yes, pictures would probably help. Have fun with your ducks!

Is their a way I can make her go broody? Or do they do it on their own?

Not really. Just not collecting eggs is the only way really. That's what I did. I don't eat duck eggs and no one else was eating them enough to keep up with other laying so I quit collecting them in hopes I got a broody out of it. And well so far I have 2 and might have another soon depending on if she decides to go broody or not
