Hmm I have a Pekin who has gone broody and an Ancona who might soon, so not sure who said they won't go broody so late in the year. Nope just wash then with warn water and whether or not you use soap that's up to you. I use an antibacterial soap and warm water on mine.Thank you! She had 16 eggs in her nest! She wasn't sitting on them either! We found out that it's too late in the year for ducks to be broody! She was just hording them. We took all the eggs out. We tried a fresh egg she laid the next morning. It tasted just like a chicken egg!! I have been gathering an egg a day from her! I hope next Spring she will sit on them! I want baby ducks!
Is there anything I should do before I eat her eggs other than washing them? Thank you everyone! And I'm sorry I haven't been replying quickly.![]()
Thanks! Cackle Hatchery, (the hatchery I got my ducks from) said that it's too late in the year for my duck to be broody. They also said that she may never be broody? I have been washing the eggs in luck warm water. They are a lot harder to break than chicken eggs! Also, should I gather the eggs early in the morning, when it's cool outside? It's very HOT here during the afternoon!
Is their a way I can make her go broody? Or do they do it on their own?
