Well, Goat Walker if you did do that, it would make you a duck guardian angel. I don't have all that much land, so if I can talk DH into a pair or a trio of Ancona's I will be lucky!! I already have some Golden Cacade duckies coming if the breeder in IN gets a good hatch this spring.
Hello fellow Ancona lovers! I'm so excited that everyone knows we have Anconas available. This will be our first year really selling some, so we are thrilled to have the opportunity to share some with people interested in the breed. We'd be glad to put you on the "birth announcement" list, if you'll just let us know what you want.
I emailed Holderread's, asking about the Ancona ducks. Wanita told me that it was simply a matter of workload; they had to drop a few breeds just to make the work manageable. Unfortunately, the Ancona was one of them.
The good news is, I still have 21 blacks and chocolates I ordered from them last year. So, needless to say, I'll be breeding them; I really like the Ancona duck, and I want to make sure they stick around.
Thank you so much for being willing to ship eggs. I'm so excited - when do you suppose it'll be time to send some? I was doing math in my head and figured maybe around St Patrick's Day - cos then they'd have 4 weeks til hatch, & then 6 weeks to the beginning of June, which ought to be plenty mild enough to move outside (even here in New England.) But of course I am no duckologist.
(!!!!excited!!!!)
Oh and edited to add I am gutted to hear about Holderread's, he really seemed to have a particular affection for the breed in the Storey's Guide.
Another place to order them from might be www.boondockersnaturals.com I don't know anything about them but their price seem good.
They say their stock comes from Holderread

I think their website said it's for their own sanity! I can't imagine keeping so many breeds of birds! I think they're downsizing so that they can focus more on the rarer breeds and perfecting some of their non-standard varieties - that's just personal speculation though!
I think it is an issue with work load. They have been eliminating a few varieties every year for a few years now. I took on some of their other varieties that they are completely getting out of (no Anconas though right now). I just got a bunch of their adult ducks yesterday actually, several types of Runners and a few other things.
Well first off, I have Anconas...lol as implied by my username. They are the best ducks on the planet! I have a few other breeds, but my Anconas are ecspecially wonderful! These ducks are my passion! I have a relatively large flock of blues, blacks, lavenders, and chocolates, and it's my goal to continue preserving this awsome breed!! I am very sad to hear that Holderread's is dropping the Ancona. It seems as if no one else mantains a very large flock
I am interested in a standard as well. I have been looking for the standard that is *supposed* to be in the latest version of the SOP, but have found nothing official. Any ideas from anyone?
