Ancona Ducks

Ususally, if you place eggs in the incubator all together, assuming they were collected around the same time, you SHOULD get them to pip together. So when you candle them, if you have a few that haven't pipped internally while the others have, then they MIGHT be upside down in the shell. Those are the "red flags" when I hatch.

I will take them out of the carton a few times a day just to be sure they haven't pipped at the wrong end. If they do, then I lay them on their side and let them hatch that way.

The last ones I hatched (I had 37 eggs) only 1 was upside down. And I caught it just as the shell was slightly pipped. So it made it just fine with the rest :)

I have 7 ducks show up in the creek behind my house. I have identified most of them as either Ancona or Duclair. There are 2 that I'm not sure about. One looks like it might be an Ancona, it is white with light brown/buff colored markings. I haven't seen any pics of Anconas with this color. The other one is the same color brown but it's body is brown with a white ring around it's neck and a few white spots on it. Please help me figure out what they are! Here is a pic. It's not a great one.

The buff one could be a saxony. It's another endangered duck breed. Not sure about the other as the picture is a bit far away to make out details.

Thanks for the input! I'm gonna try to get some better pics today.
Someone had also suggested that they might be Anconas with different color variations depending on the parents.

Just so down and disappointed. We just candled our second batch of hatching eggs and only one is a maybe growth after 8 days. Our saxony eggs are ALL growing and they are a day younger!
My question: does any one of u sell hatching eggs for a decent price? Getting desperate to have some Anconas but it seems the post office doesn't like us to have any... But I WANT!

I have 2 of the 4 that were shipped growing and due in a week. I got them on eBay for about $13 total from wowsafarm. They were packed amazingly and the two no goes don't seem fertile. I got them really early in the season. He now has 100%fertility

I think we all feel your pain on that. I ordered 3 dozen and only 8 are growing :/ I've ordered dud batches. Out of 3 dozen ordered in the past 3 months I only have 2 ducklings to show for it. I'm now ordering live ducklings and adults. I just ordered a trio that got here on Wednesday, already feel like it was my best purchase yet despite the $60 shipping.

Mine won't be laying until June/July, and I owe a couple swaps, but feel free to PM me and keep and touch, I'd be more than happy to ship you some for the cost of shipping.
