Ancona Ducks

really? wow well with this many people getting and breeding them the shortage should be fixed very soon

I know! I had never heard of them until we went to the farm store to ask about what ducks would be best for us and the lady who worked there breads them. We got two and I've been reading all about them and saw there endangered, but it seems like lots of people have them when you look on here! I think they are great because there so easy to tell apart! Oh and I looked and saw many people seem to keep there ducks and chickens together, but seems like for te most part they are kept separate at nigh. Like I said, I have no expierence with ducks ad chickens together. We just got are first ducks.

Anconas are an endangered bread. I'm not sure what that means exactly for how many there are in the world, but some ducks there are lots of, some are listed as "rare" but anconas are listed as endangered.

I don't have any personal experience with duck/chicken mixing, but from what I've read in here, ducks are happier with ducks. I did read a post awhile back where someone asked the same thing and was told she should get another duck. Good luck! You have a very cute duck there :)

Very sweet! I've seen others say for a lone duck to put a stuffed animal in with them for comfort. At least until you get another. Just an idea if he/she doesn't have one in with it. I know as soon as one of mine isn't with the other two it's peeping louder and louder until it's back with the others! Especially the anconas! They peep way louder and more frantic then my Muscovy.

You say breeding them they should be getting off the endangered list as there are so many people having/breeding them. But breeding them also means gettig them APA recognized and breeding them to their known standard, not just cause they're cute and for breeding a sake. IMHO

I'm sure for them to count the breeder would have to be recognized as having certain flock standards and documentation, just like dog breeders. But even someone who just breeds them because they like them I'm sure is helping get there name out there. They are just the cutest ducks!

i didn't know the APA recognized ducks i guess i still have allot to learn i wouldn't mind breeding anconas in the future (to the standard of course) if they have good temperament it would be cool to know you helped get a animal off the endangered list
