Ancona Ducks

I would love even half an acre, but I try to remember before the houseing market tanked we didn't know if we would ever be able to own a home, so I should be happy that with no help we were able to buy a home. But still one day..... Good to have a goal!

Well you guys today I'm doing a whole lot of nothing! My husband took my son to the fair and I'm outside with the ducks. Thought I'd post a picture of them in the pond

Winteree, I think we're due for some new pics of your ducklings! Bet there getting big!
Woah...What is the black one in the middle? He/She has a very unique face! More wild/exotic looking than domesticated.

I have a mix of 18 ducks, which include 3 Ancona ducklings (almost 5 weeks old and still have some yellow fluff). They are sweethearts!

They just took a dip in the pool and were grooming themselves when I took this photo. Here's my trio from top to bottom: Margret, Hans and Greta. Hans likes to play with my hair when I nuzzle him in my arms.

Thank you. It was my own fault. I was alone with the kids when it happened and we were playing out in the yard late and the two year old got cranky so I took him in to read him a book to settle him down, which turned into three and then I figured I'd just get him ready for bed and next thing I knew it was dark. When I came back out to get the ducks it was too late. Stax was the ringleader and the girls are sort of confused without her. And I feel jarred every time I look at them and there's two and not three.

I keep thinking of all the little things I could have done. I could have left the back door open and they would have come in by themselves (they sleep in a dog crate inside). They would have probably raided the cat food and wandered into the living room and pooped on the rug, but they'd still be okay. Unless the raccoon followed them in, that would have been awful. Or I could have thought to send my older son out, or made him watch my younger son in the tub... So many woulda shoulda couldas. From now on they go to bed before the sun goes down no matter what.

Just wanted to share pics of all our duckies!! They range from 2 months to 1 1/2 months...

We are thinking we need at least one more female! We are pretty sure we have 3 drakes and 4 ducks & we don't want our drakes to over breed our females.

We have four Anconas and hope to get at least one more!

We got our anconas last summer. Curious how many years they will lay eggs. At what point will we need to replace the hens with younger ones? We have a number of duck egg customers, and I'd like to plan far enough in advance when we need to start raising more ducklings.
