Ancona Ducks

Congrats on getting eggs again.

I have a question on eye color. You stated blue before is the eye color preferred. I have birds with blues eyes.our Sebastopols and French White Muscovy both have BLUE eyes. So the question is are we talking blue,or are we talking just sorta blue but more hazel in reality? After hatching from 5 sources there isnt a single ancona with blue eyes, hazel yes but not blue.

I'd like to know this, too.

I was surprised to read about the blue eyes in Holderread's Ancona pamphlet as all mine have brown eyes. Something else for me to work on.

I kinda compare it to blue eggs, some say Ancona lay blue eggs, but when put against an Ameraucana chicken egg they arent blue at all. Our Sebbies have blue eyes so thats why I used them as a base to compare to.

I'm curious what others' eyes look like, too. I would describe my Anconas' eyes as a grayish blue, not the bright blue of the Sebastopols.

It's a grayish blue much like runner ducks have. I'm still working on getting the brown eyes out of our flock. My line was developed with 3 different lines as well one of them including Holderreads old bloodline from boondockers and I've gotten both brown eyes and blue eyes. It is not like the sebbies more of a gray blue as compared to the ice blue of the sebs.

ok, that helps a lot. I see the grey toned kinda hazel blue on ducks here. I was worried someone was stating blue like the sebbies and had a large group of culls because of eye color. lol

I am seeing both these (blue grey left, and green grey right) as compared to the blue of the sebbies and a couple with brown

Today was quite a surprise in the egg department! Starting to look like my girls will be back to work within a week. I've been getting a couple everyday now but today all but 2 girls laid.
