Ancona Ducks

I couldn't see any veining in the anconas when I candled the other two after the first one hatched, not did I see any movement.
I don't see veining or movement in the cayugas. Today is day 28

Okay you may not have a strong enough candler or not enough darkness. Try candling them tonight if they haven't pipped. You still have a couple days to wait. If they don't show any change in 2 days personally I'd open them up. That's just me though, I know lots of people don't like assisting.

I don't mind assisting. I end up doing it a lot with chicken eggs. There's always ONE serama at the end who's been stuck at pipping for a good 24 hours lol.
I'll check again tonight, but I think it's probably my light. I don't usually see much this close to hatch even with chicken eggs.

Hopefully you'll see movement. I leave the light on the egg for a bit if I don't see movement right away. A lot of times the light will make them flinch. If you see movement you're good. Even better if they pip before tonight.

Part of the problem with seeing into the cayauga eggs would be the dark shells. Cayaugas lay light grey to nearly black eggs. You will also have different incubation times between breeds. I have found my anconas to be early hatchers & my runners to be late hatchers. Give the cayaugas at least another 3-4 days. I had runners hatch 5-6 days late last winter. Average incybation time for most ducks is 28 days. Calls are 26 days. Muscovies are 35 days. Normal range is 2 days either side of that average so creates about a 5 day hatch window.

Oh good lookin out I didn't even think of that. I've had a couple dark call eggs that I've barely been able to see movement in.

I candled now that it's dark and I really don't see much. One I think is pretty much toast, its all floaty inside, but the other two are just dark lol. I'll let it run a couple more days and see if anything comes of it. I'll probably toss them in the bottom of my big bator if I don't see anything in a couple days, that'll give them a few more JUST in case, but won't have to leave my brinsea set up. The other one is pretty much a permanent installment in my room LOL giant ugly home made styrofoam one, but it fits so perfectly under my TV with a nice convenient handle for turning without opening the lid.

Anywho, I have a NEW question lol
I was hoping to try vent sexing them as I would like to keep one male inside with me as a house duck. My house goose Trina is outside for mating season and I really miss having her featherbutt around. Upon inspecting their vents, I noticed one, before I tried sexing it, has a vent that looks more like an outtie belly button than a vent. I can't seem to find any actual opening for feces or anything else. Is this normal? Is there something I need to do? It seems otherwise healthy, up and running around and napping with the others.
The other two's vents look normal, although I was unsuccessful at sexing. I was able to sex my goose at the feed store before bringing her home and even sexed a pair for a friend to take home, but those were a week old. Will it get any easier to vent sex in a week or so? I know with a lot of animals it can be easier after a little time. I know my bunnies suddenly became VERY obvious after 3 weeks of attempting and mind changing LOL

It's tail is pointing to the right in this one if that helps

And my favorite little one so far - such a cutie! Excited about the legs! The two with black legs both have almost the EXACT same pattern! Black to the hocks black along the inside and middle toe, and a black spot on the middle of the outside toe (same on both sides). This one only has the outside toe spots

I usually sex ducks at 3-4 days old. Calls after 1 wk. Geese I can sex at day 2. Give them a couple days & try again. As for the odd colored one, it just looks to me to have a "spot" there.

It's not the color the concerns me, its the shape. It doesnt fold and "wink" like the others. It sticks out like a big bubble and I can't seem to find any actual opening for feces.
It almost looks like a swollen blister, or like its inside out?
